One Idea for Controlling Gun Violence

Just found this:

At times like these, I choose to discuss gun issues because, as one of the nation’s few centrists on the issue of guns, and as someone who is rather liberal on nearly every other issue, I feel I’m almost-uniquely qualified to objectively handle the subject.

The way I see it, we have two options: One, ban guns entirely. Two, have people we trust to have guns to defend us. Let’s take them in turn:

Nothing other than this screed. What's the name for fake grass used in stadiums again?

"I suggest we, as a nation, establish a corps of deputies — defenders if you will.
Let’s carefully choose some people — from the most responsible and trusted citizens among us — and then provide them with the proper training to defend us. Perhaps it’s the CEO and a middle-manager or two at a large company. Perhaps it’s the football coach, chemistry teacher and librarian at our school. Perhaps it’s the manager of the mall food court who has never been in trouble in his or her life. We can, as a nation, choose who will be trusted, and we can choose the criteria for that trust. But let’s choose to put our trust in a few people. And do it soon."

Really. Does he realize what he's describing is a militia?
And what do you want to bet he's the not-so-hypothetical manager of the mall food court in the above scenario?

I suggest something that stands out proudly:

Red and white spandex tights with a blue cape?

That way may easily identify our saviors and thank them from defending us from evil
when we're out walking around!

But we could give them a patch or a badge for their uniforms.

They should probably have radios too so they could communicate with each other.

We should probably pay them for defending us...

Maybe we could get them special cars to drive while they're defending us. The cars could have special lights on them so we know to get out of their way while they're defending us.

We could probably have them do some other stuff in their down time from all that defending us. This way, the can serve as well as protect us...

I wish we could do something like this...

Someone tries to come up with a compromise solution and you accuse him/her of being a food court manager? Sometimes the people on DU are no better than the rightwing jerks on the other end of the issues.
