Fox host Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Climate science is just a ‘product that’s sold’ to Americans

Last edited Thu Apr 17, 2014, 11:08 AM - Edit history (2)

Fox News host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Thursday morning declared that climate change was just another “product” being “sold” to the American people, which might explain why a recent study found that the network was wrong about the subject 72 percent of the time.

Because it's rude and sexist and will likely be alerted on and hidden by a jury.

Please be more careful in the future.

Thanks in advance.

Do I really have to explain this?

It's a stereotype that's mean to women.

And it's fucked up that you want to defend it instead of considering the impact of it's use on future generations.

First, the truth of something is no defense. If Megan on Fox is blonde and she's dumb, it's still a rude stereotype to say dumb blonde.

Mike Tyson is kind of stupid and he's black, I think you'd agree that it's not cool to call him a "stupid black".

On the creeping effect of casual use of stereotypes:

If we make it acceptable language in this online community, then people are more likely to use it in everyday language, in front of children, in front of girls.

If you had a daughter, a blonde 7 year old daughter, would you say things like "dumb blonde"?

Would you want others to?

Stereotypes might seem harmless, but they aren't.

I hope you'll put on your thinking cap with this one.

About half are blondes or light colored, not unusual for the industry.

My SO used to buy me one for Easter and it always took me ages to eat it because it was cute. Then Lindt (company that makes choccy bunnies) put an advert out that animated the things and made them adorable and I just couldn't eat them after that.

You protest way too much. Whether Fox hires blondes specifically or not is their problem. When you choose to play into the stereotype then it becomes your problem, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Do you seriously think that it is not at least a little hurtful when a smart young woman who happens to have blonde hair sees yet another "dumb blonde" comment? You can keep your chocolate bunnies and unicorns - what is that supposed to mean, that people who disagree with the way you expressed yourself aren't really serious so can be bought off with a little candy - how insulting is that?

Honestly, all that dimwit has going for her are her looks and the fact that she married some past it football hero, and most of her looks aren't natural.

Science is what it is. Products are manufactured and so was she, just like all the other Pox News female bait that has been nipped, tucked, lifted, bleached, and dipped in depilatory up to the neck to suck in their target audience of bitter white retired males.

We have freedom of speech here, too.... it is not the monopoly of the USA. In fact, most of the world has freedom of speech, except for a few notables.
You can stand on a corner anywhere in Canada and shout out any bullshit you want. The police will not arrest you. Religious garbage, political nonsense... whatever gets you off, you are free to do so.(It should be noted, however, that most people will walk past you, annoyed that you are interrupting their day.)
However....
Canadian law states that you cannot knowingly broadcast bullshit. The CRTC will not issue a media license to you if you have a proven track record of bullshit. For this reason, Fox News was denied a broadcast license here.
SUN TV is trying to pick up the slack for FOX, but no one is paying attention to them either. (In true right wing, conservative, "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps", rugged individualist fashion, SUN TV went hat in hand to the government for a hand out to keep them alive. They got it... we have a tea-bagger prime minister. For now.)

He wasn't just some ignorant fundie; he was a man of science and should have known better.... Instead he decided to be a big oil propagandist and sell out for the fast payday...

Some are incredibly successful at it like Nobelists George Wald and Noam Chomsky. Others show themselves off as myopic dunderheads like Chrichton--once you finish with his specialty, medicine, you've pretty much finished with him.

Some of us are generalists who read widely and occasionally deeply. That would be me. Others, like Crichton, don't seem to have much of a filter and go with whatever bullshit they find comforting. It's just too bad he lent his name to such utter twaddle. He was brilliant when he wrote medical fiction.
