Fact Check: Harry Reid and that possible 'land grab'
... Out of all this, came the claim, publicized by the Texas tea party website Republican Broadcasting Network, that the showdown wasnt really about grazing cattle, unpaid fees or endangered tortoises, but was actually about a deal between Reid and a Chinese company that wanted to build a solar plant on the disputed land, according to Snopes.com and PolitiFact.com ...... Harry Reids supposed involvement in this deal falls flat in the face of two basic facts, Snopes.com and PolitiFact.com report. First, the site that ENN Mojave Energy was planning to buy is not near the public land over which Bundy and BLM have been fighting. And second, ENN gave up the solar project as far back as June 2013.
According to media reports, Rory Reid did represent the company, and Harry Reid helped recruit the company during a trip to China in 2011. But, as PolitiFact.com found, the deal hinged on nailing down long-term contracts to sell the power the massive facility would generate. When the developers were unable to get those agreements, they backed out. That was in July 2013. ENN wrote a letter to the county that stated that the current market would not support a project of this scale.
The BLM had, in 2012, released a list of 17 designated federal areas to use as potential sites for solar energy, PolitiFact.com reported. Of those areas, the 5,700-acre Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone is closest to Bundys ranch, but its closest border is at least 50 miles to the west of Bundys property and where he grazes his cattle (sources do differ in the number of miles). And the protected habitat of the desert tortoise was established in 1994, long before any interest in developing the property for a solar plant ...

(12,336 posts)1. How dare you bring up actual facts!
What in the world do you think you are doing? Good grief, if the facts are brought out, it destroys any narrative that the "anti Government" crowd has.
I hope the FBI arrests the militia types as well as Bundy and they are held without bail.
