... I live in a country generally assumed to be a dictatorship. One of the Arab spring countries. I have lived through curfews and have seen the outcomes of the sort of surveillance now being revealed in the US....

... 1) the purpose of this surveillance from the governments point of view is to control enemies of the state. Not terrorists. People who are coalescing around ideas that would destabilize the status quo. These could be religious ideas. These could be groups like anon who are too good with tech for the governments liking. It makes it very easy to know who these people are. It also makes it very simple to control these people.

Lets say you are a college student and you get in with some people who want to stop farming practices that hurt animals. So you make a plan and go to protest these practices. You get there, and wow, the protest is huge. You never expected this, you were just goofing off. Well now everyone who was there is suspect. Even though you technically had the right to protest, you're now considered a dangerous person. ...

And institutionalized torture has never been implemented for obtaining information. It has only ever been used (institutionally) in order to promulgate false information. Just another basic historical fact.

The modern science/technology for mapping our social networks is being used for the purpose of thwarting the will of the people, accelerating our headlong plunge into total fascism. It sure seems to me as though this same information could be used to ferret out the fascists. I'm for making all of this information public.

I will bet there has been surveillance by the NSA.
Environmental groups are suspect.
The Black Panthers were suspect.
Anti-war groups are suspect.
Anti-GMO groups are suspect.
Anti-corporate groups are suspect.

They hate our freedoms.

Because knowing that we are having fun in our country just pisses them off so much they can't concentrate on herding their goats and lugging buckets of water from the well. It is such a distraction for them that all they can think of is how to stop us from watching The Real Housewives and Nascar on TV.

This IS the reason for 9/11, terrorism and the "war on terror".

To build up the surveillance/police state. To expand corporate control of the world.

Private contractors running surveillance and intelligence ops of the citizenry? Really??!?

How conveeeenient that bu$h essentially LET 9-11 happen and then instituted this build-up of surveillance and along with that, we've got greatly increased corprat control of the gov't (Citizens United, ALEC, etc.) and the level of coordination between the DHS and police during Occupy was incredible.

Things that make ya say: "Hmmmm...."

The current revelations regarding the NSA has made it extremely more difficult to believe that 9/11 was a complete surprise.

Yeah! Yeah! I know...KansDem is a conspiracy theorist! oooo...oooo...!!!

But when you consider just how extensive the US spying programs are, along with the fact that there were 16 such agencies on 9/11:

Seventeen Agencies and Organizations
United Under One Goal

The 17 IC member agencies are:

Air Force Intelligence
Army Intelligence
Central Intelligence Agency
Coast Guard Intelligence
Defense Intelligence Agency
Department of Energy
Department of Homeland Security*
Department of State
Department of the Treasury
Drug Enforcement Administration
Federal Bureau of Investigation
Marine Corps Intelligence
National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
National Reconnaissance Office
National Security Agency
Navy Intelligence
Office of the Director of National Intelligence

How did 19 attackers with box cutters (15 from a country that were friends and business partners of the Bush Family) get through security undetected?

Along with the fact that Bush has two answers to when he first learned about the first WTC attack:

He saw it:

(0'26&quot

He was notified about it:

(0'50&quot

Which is it?

And finally, when his Chief of Staff Andrew Card Bush walked into the classroom to tell him about the second plane hitting ("We are under attack&quot :

He does nothing! The f*ckng little pissant sits and does nothing while his country is under attack!!!

...you have to ask yourself if the "official report" is really a fabrication.

The evidence is there: In keeping with the current American practice regarding terrorism, Bush needs to be sent to GitMo and waterboarded until he confesses...

They just took it off the shelf and dusted it off.

It was truly the case that they it hustled it through the legislature as quickly a possible before anyone could consider the implications of what they were voting on, or the shock of 9/11 wore off.

Two people who were hesitating to support it happened to receive anthrax in the mail. Funny, they went along with the PATRIOT ACT after they received the anthrax. Another funny thing, even though the anthrax was mailed from inside the U.S., nobody was every charged, although there was one person who was smeared over that case.

There's all this outcry over this NSA non-scandal from supposed-libertarians, yet where were people like her as folks have been getting denied the right to vote and as women were being denied the right to contraceptions and abortions? This story is still unraveling and all the facts aren't in, and yet everybody is jumping to conclusions about their freedom and privacy being taken away.
Steve Leser had a much more elaborate take on it during his radio show yesterday:

so all this concern for the New Homeland Security State collecting and compiling data on....well, everybody,
it just a plot by The Naderites to make Obama look bad.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

if we could have access to our recorded phone call. Suppose you are wandering "what did I said to this guy two months ago? What did I promised him
?". Problem solved: Call NSA and ask them to reproduce to you that particular phone call.
Everybody knows that real trrorists will never use phones or e-mail to communicate explicitly. The real reasons to the phone recordings are many and deals with statistical analysis of many topics that could harm the establishment. They are very, very afraid of the people reaction to what they are doing, so want to know the tendencies of the people opinion in order to crush any movement that oppose the establishment. It is spying on the people in order to control them.

Qh My..!!! Did I said that? ... Please delete everything after "Call NSA and ask them to reproduce to you that particular phone call."
