(51,666 posts)consider myself a vegan, but I am avoiding animal flesh entirely and only using eggs or cheese or oils/fats in miniscule amounts.
Lots of veggies and fruits and whole grains. I've only lost 1 lb, lol, but at least I'm not headed the OTHER direction anymore.

(20,776 posts)and I am sure many of us would look forward to losing a few pounds here and there. I know each person's system is different. I just came back from the store, where I bought some tomatoes, celery, carrots and a small mini water melon. The melon was killer! I just finished cutting it up and storing it in saran wrap, and stuck it in the fridge. I love having fruit for breakfast, and a slice of water melon sometimes just hits the spot. I also get the munchies from time to time, so carrots and celery should take care of that!

(7,358 posts)Is he using Organic products? Does he realize that organic is so much more expensive? Non-organic Kale is loaded with pesticides, as are many types of greens. He does not take into consideration preparation times. Of course he can do this in a firehouse full of guys with idle time, to help him wash slice and dice. Will food stamps cover organic vegetables? He mentions all these pro athletes and CEOs .. of course they can afford to shop .. or have their chefs shop for organic vegetables and such. I smell some self promotion going on and I'd also like to see the ''science'' based facts that he alleges to subscribe to. We have to have some cholesterol or our brains couldn't physically function. (570 posts)He's Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's son. (Dr. Esselstyn is partly responsible for Pres Clinton's diet change after his heart surgery.) http://www.heartattackproof.com
The diet is often cheaper than what many people do now. People are eating this way on $3/day or $4/day (much of rural Asia eats this way for much less). http://www.drmcdougall.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=22365&hilit=3+dollar+a+day Potatoes and rice are relatively cheap and can make up the bulk of your calories. Organic is nice, but the important point is to switch to plant-based. Non-organic kale is still better than non-organic or organic milk.
Do your own research before you assume that it's too expensive, elitist, gimmicky, etc.

I'd rather see Drs. Esselstyn, McDougall, or Greger give one of these talks.
