The only question I have is how many times did they shoot the dog and how loud did it scream in pain before it died?

(26,331 posts)I had to have a talk with my neighbor (we live in a condo) about her broken burglar alarm system. Every couple weeks, the cops were knocking on her door due to a false alarm.
I told the neighbor one of these days my dog is going to challenge the cops in the yard and get shot and I would blame her.
Videos like this are a reminder to keep pets and children away from these heartless pigs.

(2,088 posts)Cops have a hard job. You don't know if the dog threatened them with it's barking. It might have made dehumanizing stares at the officers.
Remember, if you criticize police action, don't bother calling 911 if you need a cop.

(5,402 posts)I did a quick search, and apparently it's not illegal to record cops in California. Why did they arrest the guy?

(2,088 posts)What people don't understand is now there is an arrest record which will follow him.
You have two records: An arrest record and a rap sheet.

(6,891 posts)It was a police initiated incident. It's a damn miracle they didn't shoot any of the bystanders. Increasingly, cops can be very dangerous and unstable people when angered by the exercise of perfectly legal behavior they are sworn to protect.

(3,657 posts)haunting me. It is truly heartbreaking
I so wish the dog owner did not insert himself to this situation or that he had the wherewithal to close his car windows after putting the dog in
Whatever was going on across the street was a tense situation and had a SWAT Team onsite, so the Cops were already in mood
He witnessed the execution of his beloved pet. That horror will never leave him

(2,606 posts)The reaction of this dog was..
1. Predictable
2. Not aggressive, the dog was agitated because of what was happening to his pack
3. Could have been stopped if one of the cops had paused long enough to let the owner or someone place the dog somewhere safe.
All in a loyal dog, sad end.
I'll add another voice, don't watch all the way through. I watched too much.

And to see the Police set it up when we all see this man has done absolutely nothing that violates any laws I know of...
Most likely those Police wanted his phone and anything he recorded to cover their own Asses...

Though I think it is a gross insult to pigs to call the "LEOs" in this video pigs...
Even though I wish I hadn't seen that, I urge everyone to watch it. You need to feel the rightous anger.

(492 posts)The police were very clearly reacting to what the man was shouting -- but he was not shouting epithets or threats of any sort. What he was doing was simple: pissing off a trio of cold blooded killers.
The person who murdered the dog was especially bad. What he did was evil on its face, and then he let the poor animal lie in its own blood suffering in agony. I assume there was a final coup de grace at some point. But i saw an animal deliberately left in pain. Deliberately.
All of the police involved should have their badges suspended (I know, I know, I'm dreaming.)
I'm curious to know how the public reacted to this video when it was shown on the local news. It WAS shown on the local news, wasn't it? I mean, it's news when three cops arrest a man for no reason and kill his dog on a public street, sin't it?

(11,175 posts)I often see posts on DU in which a person upset about something will rant that the malefactors will certainly be sued and lose -- and quite often, although the act is upsetting and unfortunate, my educated guess, as a lawyer, is that there's no legal cause of action. Not every wrong can be righted in court.
This one is different. The mere existence of this video, taken by an uninvolved person who will presumably testify to its accuracy, will greatly restrict the cops' ability to lie. It's hard to see how they could possibly have probable cause to arrest the man for anything. Because the killing of the dog was ancillary to the false arrest, it should be included in the damages for which the city and the individual cops are liable. (The individuals' liability would be predicated on Title 42, Section 1983 of the United States Code, imposing civil liability for a deprivation of civil rights by a person acting under color of law.)
I don't know what the law would be if the arrest were legitimate. Suppose someone wanted on an outstanding warrant for some felony is out walking his dog when the police spot him. They swoop in and make a proper arrest. His dog, sensing that they're hostile to his beloved master, starts barking and snarling at them and perhaps gives signs of attacking. In that situation, could the police reasonably use force, including deadly force, to protect themselves from the dog? They would at least have some colorable argument. In the actual case, however, the defendants will probably be looking to settle the claim instead of going before a jury.
