We want to tell you the story of two American families whose lives embody whats happened to the hopes and dreams of millions of Americans over the past 20 years.
Its a story that begins in Milwaukee back in 1991, when we first met the Stanleys and the Neumanns, families my mother, rest her soul, would have called the salt of the earth.

(111,274 posts)and found the way the Stanley family expected to be shit upon very saddening. I found the self blame the Neumanns were doing was infuriating.
The Stanleys knew it wasn't their fault. The Neumanns blamed themselves for making bad choices when all they were making were the ordinary choices required of any family that thought it could achieve the American Dream.
The real tragedy according to news over the weekend is that 80% of us are now living these two stories, in debt and barely surviving paycheck to paycheck when we have jobs and facing imminent disaster when we don't. That means 80% of us are no longer feeling secure about much of anything and that stress alone is destroying us.
What has happened to both families should never be condoned by any government worthy of the name. Expanding it to such an overwhelming majority will not be condoned by voters for long. Eventually even the dimmest red stater is going to catch a clue that his economic destruction was planned by the 1% and implemented by a lapdog government.
It is not going to be pretty when he does.

(7,661 posts)this is the result of trickle down economics and both parties chasing the corporate dollar. Now we have the Ayn Rand branch of the Republicans tricking the youth, worshiping the likes of Ron and Ayn Rand Paul. Not to mention Paul Ryan who himself benefited from the programs he wants to cut from others.
Funny when we are young we think we are John Galt until one day we wake up hungry, cold and unwanted because life is about timing and luck of the draw. I watched this program with my 14 year old daughter and we were both in tears at times. I have a great fear for both my children's future
