In ten short years, hybrids and full electric vehicles (EVs) have gone from quirky granola mobiles to mainstream commuter transportation. Almost every major automobile manufacturer offers some kind of electric vehicle, and sales are increasing steadily. But are EVs a government-subsidized fad, or the future of economically sound road transportation? And does rooftop solar make sense as the energy source for your car?
Have questions for Barry? Share them in the comments and they may be answered in the next episode.
On this week's Energy Show on Renewable Energy World we explore these issues with our special guest, Pete Levy, founder of IntelliChoice, the automobile ownership cost experts. When Pete bought an EV, he asked me some simple questions about solar and EVs. After we crunched the numbers it became very apparent that some EVs are quite a bit more cost effective than gas cars, with the economics becoming even more compelling as gas prices rise and solar electricity becomes cheaper. So tune in to this week's show and find out if an EV is in your near-term future.
