20. He makes me sick

I can't stand him. Can you imagine him as VP? Yieks. Glad we dodged that. Anyway, I can't stand Boehner either, but to think that this guy possibly is the next Majority Leader in 2014 (if they keep the House) makes me sick.

3. "We Don't Want Nothing Out of This Debt Limit" - What Does Paul Ryan Really Mean?

If Paul were from Brooklyn, NY, then we could understand his utterance as meaning,

"We don't want anything...."

But, alas, Paul is from Janesville, WI where they speak more grammatically, if
not more understandably.

Probably, Paul meant to say, "All's we want is to screw up the government so I
can get my picture in the papers."

Or, maybe, "We DO want something but we don't have a clue as to what that might be."

Please - Would Paul's mother sound off from Florida in and tell us what her little boy really wants.

6. I read that to mean that they got nothing the last time they used these tactics, so

this time he wants more than nothing.

12. Yes, he used a double negative.... but

He means what it means.... that they want something. An awkward sophomoric way of saying "we want something".

24. Albertcat, You Are Right of Course - Paul Is About to Commit Extortion

Last edited Mon Dec 16, 2013, 09:55 PM - Edit history (1)

Albertcat,

Yes, you are absolutely right. Paul is about to try to extort concessions from the Democrats
in return for not obstructing an increase in the debt limit.

Now the last time the Republicans pulled this trick it resulted in a downgrading of the USA's credit
rating by S&P. My recollection is that it went from AAA to AA+. That meant that treasury bills issued
by the USA would have to bear higher interest rates compared to what would have been the case
with a AAA rating.

Does anybody know how many extra billions of $ did this cost the US treasury when it sold treasury bills in 2013?

Albertcat - Please give me a little help on another question. How did you manage to insert a graphic into
your reply to my thread? I have tried "copy" and "paste" of a jpg image but I can't seem to get "paste" to
respond. Should the image have another format? gif? Whatever? Or is there another way to do it?

Many thanks.

7. Actually, it did kind of work.

In less than two months after the shutdown the GOP has gained back their advantage in the polls. It didn't hurt them one bit, and they actually are the preferred party to run Congress.

Last edited Tue Dec 17, 2013, 12:08 PM - Edit history (1)

My guess is that a sizable chunk of House Republicans will not be willing to go over the edge with default. And Republicans would surely get the blame because the just agreed on a budget and then they refuse to fund the budget just passed. There is absolutely no way they can spin that into a winning issue. Yes, we will have posturing on the issue but they really have no cards to play. Not just that, but when they come back in early January the first order of business will be a 4-6 month extension of unemployment benefits effective back to December 27th (when they ran out) and they will probably be paid for out of a reduction in farm subsidies. Lastly, they will pass a minimum wage increase and take up immigration reform then send that bill to the President for signature. Why would they cave on all of these issues? So they can turn their sole focus on the Affordable Care Act.

You heard it here first.

31. Paul, you are

the best hope the Democratic party has. As long as you keep doing things that even your masters on Wall Street get freaked out by, you will give voters a reason to vote Democrat.

Which sadly, is more than the democrats can do atm.
