One of my students showed me this, by comedian Aamer Rahman. It's a great, great, way to debunk 'reverse racism'.

(7,745 posts)It's OK if you're just not that funny so you have to make racial stereotype jokes. Just don't pretend you are any different from all the white "B" grade comedians that make racial stereotypr jokes.

(752 posts)It's hurtful and wrong. I did notice when I watched the video there isn't a single stereotype used in the entire bit by this particular comedian to get a laugh. Just history. He does make fun of using the term, but he doesn't stereotype anyone in the clip. That's why I think it's worth watching and considering. Peace Taitertots.

(10,745 posts)"Reverse racism" doesn't exist, not because people who aren't "white" can't be racist(they can! at least on a personal level), but it's actually because racism is not the exclusive property of any one group, anywhere in the world, and never has been; i.e., Palestinians can be racist towards Israelis, Koreans can be racist against Japanese or Chinese, etc.

(752 posts)Reverse racism is a dumb, superficial term, like colorblind. He does an excellent job of showing it. Most political comedians of color are underrated, not overrated. We need their voices to avoid what Chimamanda Adichie calls, the danger of the single story.

On this, we agree, though, just for different reasons.
