As Netanyahu Tries to Stop U.S.-Iran Deal, Leaked Cables Show Israeli Spies Reject His Nuke Claims

http://democracynow.org - In what has been described as the biggest intelligence leak since Edward Snowden, Al Jazeera has begun publishing a series of spy cables from world's top intelligence agencies. In one cable, the Israeli spy agency Mossad contradicts Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's own dire warnings about Iran's ability to produce a nuclear bomb within one year. In a report to South African counterparts in October 2012, the Mossad concluded Iran was "not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons." The explosive disclosure comes just as the United States and Iran have reported progress toward reaching a nuclear deal, an outcome Netanyahu will try to undermine when he addresses the U.S. Congress next week. We go to Doha to speak with Clayton Swisher, the head of Al Jazeera's investigative unit, which broke the Iran story and several others in a series of articles called, "The Spy Cables."

3. So, Bibi Netanyahu Will Address Congress

in a weird, rehashed rerun of something like W's "Mushroom Cloud" speech about Iraq. And in the audience will be fundamentalist Republican wingnuts urging him on, because Armageddon will bring their beloved King Jesus back to earth to save them so they can get the heck outta this hellhole! The stakes are high indeed as various new aspects of what may very well become a game of political blackmail of our President by his enemies, both foreign and domestic, start to unfold. Let's pray that our President has the moral strength and courage to stand up to this warmongering and call their bluff. It's like the leadup to the Iraq war, but with a new international twist - and it's interesting that Bibi may actually feel more at home, and more in sympathetic company in the new US Congress, dominated as it is by wingnut Republicans - either they're fundamentalist morans who support his cause for religious and apocalyptic reasons, or they're in the deep pockets of the arms dealers who would make the ultimate "killing" on WW 3, than he is with his own citizens, and his own intelligence service, who, more than anyone else, should have the highest good and survival of Israel at heart.
