(20,453 posts)Yes, I love Keith, and Yes, I miss him, but my reason for commenting is what is being discussed as a choice.
Until you get the disgusting laws off the books like this discriminatory one, the CHOICE should be for all the NATIONAL leagues to withhold their business in this state that is ready to re-play more laws reminiscent of Jim Crow.
I agree
Move the Final Four. FUCK Indiana and its narrow minded lawmakers!

(827 posts)...I don't think its possible this late in the tournament.
Millions of dollars in contracts would be broken, and I'm sure CBS has already prepositioned and set up much of their equipment. Tens of thousands of ticket holders would miss the event for something they have no control over. Hotels and restaurants would lose an amount of money that might break them, for something they have no control over.
The people who would be hurt the worst are the ones who could least afford it. So, have the tournament as scheduled, make a statement both on teevee and in the stadium that it's the last NCAA event there if the law isn't repealed.

(1,278 posts)however, Ford Field is 288 miles away, available and unused. The Edward Jones Dome is 240 miles away in St Louis. Next year's site FF and this year's regional, NRG Stadium in Houston is available, and of course, Jerry World a.k.a. AT&T Stadium in Dallas is available and has hosted these types of events before. Think of it as if a hurricane hit Indianapolis and events had to be moved.

(50,983 posts)My wife's aunt would be about 95 now. She told us how as a child the teachers forced her to write right handed even though she was clearly left handed. She became pretty accomplished at writing right handed. But it was quite a struggle as you can imagine.

(5,810 posts)After watching this: Wow, I miss that man. I never missed his show when he was on MSNBC. His opinion pieces always seemed so well thought out. I also appreciated the fact that for this one he reached back to the not so distant past to remind us of similar struggles to protect the rights of those who were facing discrimination.
One thing for sure, the debacle in Indiana has brought the discussion back to the table for discussion. Loud and center front. As time goes on, the people still stuck in their 19th century views and opinions regarding discrimination, sexual orientation, whose "rights" will prevail and equal protection under the law are going to die off. The generation coming along now will grow up in a different world....hopefully. It won't be different if there is no pushback against the old, tired and outdated thinking. People like Keith who know how to make an argument and have the platform to reach the masses need to keep on speaking up and out!
