Once upon a time, when a Democratic candidate says "I will fight for you", it a actually meant something.

(7,901 posts)The possibility of a better world in real terms, not just reserved for the select few or those who bow in the approved way to the correct god.
BYW: Today's GOP are direct decedents from the Birch Society of 1960. Fred Koch helped start that whole deal and his wealth financed its growth.

(18,998 posts)But I know what it is about...I was recruited by one member and actually attended a meeting or two before I caught on the their game...they were as racist as the KKK but not as obvious.
Their main focus then was the destruction of public education...funny now that they have almost done that now.

Untill the dot-com boom of 1990's the best economic times was the Kennedy/JOhnson economy.
It's complete laughable to say Kennedy would be republican today.Even his tax cut had much higher tax rate than today.Back then
rich had to pay more than they do today.
Kennedy may have come from wealth but that wasn't what drove him.In fact that was some wealthy didn't like him.he had money and couldn't be bought.
He campagened on medicare. That alone proves he would never have been republican.
on foreign policy he took blame for bay of pigs failure and then fired the leadership of CIA.could you imagine a republican or corporate Dem of today doing that.He didn't treat the military's word as gossepl.Otherwise the world would have been blown up over Cuba.
Doing a TV ad with Harry Belafonte was risky due to him needing the south to win.
