(135 posts)About that "18-year cooling" -- about which we hear so much from the "deniers."
In 1979, the global temperature "spiked," due to El Nino. That El Nino high was not exceeded until 2010. Hence the "cooling period." The "cooling period" hokum has been obliterated by the data from the last two years -- the hottest on record.
In context (i.e., data over decades and centuries), global warming is undeniable.
For more, see "Skeptical Science." http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-cooling-january-2007-to-january-2008.htm . Summary: "Global temperatures continue to rise steadily beneath the short-term noise."

(463 posts)I used to give this Asshat some credit for being somewhat intelligent, and only appealing to his base of morons. I have since changed that opinion of him.

(16,230 posts)They want people to see facts and opinions as being equivalent things. This allows them to promote their own "facts", and therefore to deny problems caused by their corporate benefactors.

Cheney is still their king, though. Putin is giving the Dickster a run for his money, but for pure, malevolent evil, Cheney wins, hands down and going away.

(957 posts)What the chances of Ted Cruz getting struck by lightening in front of the creationism museum?
jimlup
(7,968 posts)Cruz is a master of misdirection and stawman attacks. He lied outright and had no idea that he was lying. And picking on the Sierra Club president was a nice touch. He and his Republican henchmen made sure that the committee didn't call any real scientists who could actually explain the science. Instead he picked on a politician who was not a scientist and attacked him for not being able to answer detailed and blatantly falsified questions about the science.
We have to get the counterpoint out there of these liars will win.
