3. What is your position on Glass-Steagall and on breaking up the big banks?

Please respond the content of this interview of William Black--a former financial regulator and author of "The Best Way To Rob a Bank Is To Own One"--and to the views of the 169 economists who endorsed Bernie Sanders along with Black, for the reasons that Black is stating in the interview.

His two main points are that Glass-Steagall must be reinstated and the "too big to fail" banks broken up into entities that can be regulated and that don't threaten the U.S. and the world economy because of their unmanageable size. Please tell us what you think about these two important issues.

5. Thom has an illness. His piece on the 170 economists is perfectly accurate.

If you can refute what Bill Black said let's hear it.

What is your position on Glass-Steagal and on breaking up "too big to fail" banks--i.e., what do you think of the CONTENT of this interview of William Black, a spokesperson for 170 economists who agree with Bernie Sanders on these issues and recently endorsed him?

I am real tired of hit-n-run posts, like this one of yours, which is trying to slander one of the very best, most intelligent, most informed and informative political commentators of our era--Thom Hartmann. I've seen such tactics before by posters at DU who try to spread pro-Corporate Ruler propaganda with one-liner attacks that have nothing to contribute to the discussion of substantive issues.

Please distinguish yourself from the Corporate hit-n-runners by explaining your views on Glass-Steagal and "too big to fail" banks.

I'm giving you a chance to change my impression of you. After seeing a number of comments by you that are similar to this one, I have a very bad impression of you. Why are you attacking the interviewer and NOT addressing the issues discussed by the interviewee? If you disagree with Black's views, say so and say why. We may not agree on these matters but at least I will know that you are not merely trying to sabotage the discussion but, indeed, have something useful to contribute. I LIKE good discussions. I don't like hit-n-run.

So, please, if you are a serious person--and not just an uh-noper--answer my question on these issues.

I support also bringing back legislation like Glass-Steagal (or whatever responsible people like E. Warren and P. Krugman and W. Reich decide is the best way to do it).

I agree with Hartmann on most and probably all domestic issues (I don't listen to him regularly anymore.)

However, Hartmann has discredited himself by sticking to RT even after all this. Maybe it was barely okay once, but in the last two years it's truly a disgrace to be associated with it.

If Hartmann or some supposedly good progressive had a column on Stormfront.org, that was supposedly editorially free from Stormfront's administration, would you think it's okay to post links to Stormfront on DU or anywhere? To get progressive to think that Stormfront is kind of okay in some way? That example is now more apt than ever.

Neither Elizabeth Warren nor Paul Krugman nor Robert Reich is risking their all, as a presidential candidate, to get these things done--reinstituting Glass-Steagall, breaking up the "too big to fail" banks. Only Bernie Sanders is doing that. (Warren may turn out to be his VP mate, but she isn't risking it yet.)

I'm not saying these others that you mention (Warren, Krugman, Reich) haven't fought hard on these and other vital issues. I'm just looking at the huge risks of a presidential campaign, especially to someone like Sanders, who started at--what?--3% in the polls (now about 50%), and who started with no money (now has lots from small donors), and no party backing (now has lots from regular party members, not the leadership). Lots of risks for Bernie--including risks to life and limb, and to family--just to get these things done, that most of the party leaders seem to have taken a Republican position on, or a lame, do-nothing position.

We need a PRESIDENT passionately committed to these things. They will not get done otherwise. And Bernie's leading a grass roots revolution to do them.

As for Hillary Clinton, her husband tore up this essential New Deal law (Glass-Steagall). She also defends "Dodd-Frank"--a very weak (and weakly implemented) law that has failed to end dangerous speculation, and will NOT prevent the next great crash.

That's how I see it. If we want Glass-Steagall back, there is only one presidential candidate who is firmly committed to doing that.

Re: RT. I don't find any problem with reading Paul Krugman, though he publishes in the New York Times--a publication that earned my lasting disgust when they printed lie after lie about WMDs in Iraq, in concert with Bush, Cheney & Rumsfeld. I don't call them the New York Slimes for nothing. But I don't blame Krugman for the foul (not to mention murderous) lies of the owners, editors and reporters. It might have been nice for him to pull his column from their rag over the Iraq War, but I don't think it's realistic, or fair, to expect that of a mere columnist. They provide him a platform that he could not provide for himself.

I feel the same way about Hartmann and RT. RT provides a quite different perspective on world affairs from our Corporate Media. Nothing wrong with that. AND they provide us with access to Thom Hartmann. He shouldn't be expected to quit them any more than we should expect Krugman to quit the Slimes.

Warren is a colleague of the worst lot of corrupt scumbags and lying liars ever to hold seats in Congress. Should she quit her Senate seat because Congress is so rotten? No. It provides her with a platform.

I could mention many more instances of this kind of situation--where an individual wants to provide information and leadership to others, and people want and need that information and/or leadership, but the reporter, commentator and/or leader is dependent upon others--media owners, an institution--they don't necessarily agree with.

I think you should take your beef with RT to RT. Me?--I'm kind of glad that there are alternative views out there, even if they come from the Tsar of Russia. Alternative views are all worth understanding and analyzing. We shouldn't bury our heads in the sand. And we shouldn't expect others to fight our battles for us--especially when you would be asking them to give up their living, or completely disrupt their lives and work.

To me, the info and views that Thom Hartmann provides are exceptionally important, and that is a mark in RT's favor.

4. This is the major issue of this year's election and is not getting enough play or serious thought.

It is a sword hanging over us all. I'm already seeing some margin calls taking place. Will Americans recognize it in time or the hard way again?

6. This should be a major issue. The biased Wall Street controlled media might not allow it

to become a major issue.

As the media has blacked out a discussion on torture, single payer, the TPP, the lies that led up to the Iraq War and the outrageous wasteful bloated military, they can prevent the people from learning the truth of Glass Steagal.

It is corruption from sea to shining sea.
