(Incidentally, I don't agree with him that if Louis XVI had listened to Turgot, all would have been well; but that's a quite different discussion that I would love to have been able to make with TR.)
No, Roosevelt was an educated man, and comfortable as such. The current crop seem to want to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

(20,453 posts)I keep wondering how literate the public was then to this level of oratory. We didn't have anything other than voice recordings and personal events.
This shows how far we've fallen from lack of leadership. The same message is unrecognized as leadership and feared out of ignorance more than ever today.

While "some" of the American people may be capable--just looking today at Donald Trump as a serious contender should alert everyone that there are many morons out there--and they vote.
