(45,984 posts)At least the word bovine was heard in the video.
Actually, I find the topic of domesticated animal genders (if that's the correct term) interesting. Unless people have grown up on a farm, they usually have no idea how much human intereference occurs in the sex lives of domesticated animals (particularly when it comes to the males). Examples:
Female bovine = heifer/cow
Male bovine = bull
Neutered male bovine (snip, snip!) = steer
Female horse = mare
Male horse = stallion
Neutered male horse = gelding
Female chicken = hen
Male chicken = rooster
Neutered male chicken = capon
Female pig = sow
Male pig = boar
Neutered male pig = barrow
Female sheep = ewe
Male sheep = ram
Neutered male sheep = wether
Et cetera, et cetera.

(20,626 posts)are sheep the same as lambs? Or are lambs young sheep? I always thought sheep was the plural but apparently not.
Old Crow
(2,212 posts)it's similar to deer--used for both singular and plural. (Which raises another question: Why are words that are the same in the singular and the plural so often names of animals, such as deer, moose, sheep, swine, and bison? I have no idea. )
On a much darker note, it's worth mentioning that when humans have been treated as domesticated animals--that is, in slave-holding societies--this practice of neutering males was applied to them, as well.
Female human: woman
Male human: man
Neutered male human: eunuch
The world, and human history in particular, is pretty bizarre.

(20,626 posts)I lived in the country 30 years and have surely mixed up my names all this time.
Bizarre is right - still don't know why groups of crows are called a murder!
