Medal of Dishonour: US veterans dump awards outraged by endless wars

Published on Jun 17, 2012 by RussiaToday

The U.S. military has admitted that major mistakes were made during its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in a report that showed flaws in training and policy. It also highlighted a lack of understanding over the realities faced by troops. Now, it seems the country's war veterans are joining an increasingly-angry public, over what they see as America's constant cycle of war. With some even ditching their honours of valour - as Anastasia Churkina explains.

"If we are going to talk about rules of war, it doesn't make sense to start with the soldiers and Marines who have been put into that situation. They will all tell you that the first rule is to stay alive....Instead, we have to start with the powerful people who chose to put those soldiers there. The No.1 war crime is starting a war, because all other war crimes emanate from that first crime."

...in the draft lottery. Every time.

- But in 1970, I moved closer to the Canadian border nonetheless.....

We've only just begun
the battles against the terrorist Goldstein

In case anyone doubts Noor al Haqiqa's comment on my post about the Bill C-38 marathon vote that Harper, while slashing the budgets of all sorts of public services at home, is expanding its military operations around the world ...

The National Post spelled it out clearly a year ago this month, just after Harper squeaked into his House majority (by hook or by Robocalls in 14 ridings? - see VIDEO), and the tone was ominous with regard to the inevitably of planned future wars against terrorism of all kinds (all emphases mine):

“They will be what you would call ‘forward supply depots, strategically placed near parts of the world where Canadian Forces might be deployed in future,” he said. With the depots, the Canadian military will not have to “haul around” its gear everytime they deploy overseas.

The Canadian reports were picked up by international media. But according to the Ottawa Citizen Blog, Defence Minion Peter MacKay denied it, saying "there are no negotiations underway for Canadian bases overseas"

snip

So there's no denying future wars are on the horizon, and the term "peace support operations" is just another version of the Newspeak "War is Peace", though the intention is to leave us with the impression that the bases have the noble function of "humanitarian assistance".

Much, much too late, come critical articles like one:

Is Stephen Harper's global military policy delusional or just plain mad?
