Trump believes only in himself, and money. Ted Cruz is a far right ideologue and a Dominionist who wants an America ruled by theocratic elites.

Also, Trump is more beatable in the general election. He's managed to make Cruz look like a sane alternative.

Trump negotiated an amazing deal with Cruz to make him look like the saner alternative so if Cruz gets the nomination, Trump gets something big. Cushy trade deal, or preferred trading status.

Just kidding, really. It might looks more likely if Cruz were leading, unless this "implosion" of the Trump campaign is him being finally too extreme to be electable next to "respectable" (hurk) Cruz.

Ugh. There just aren't any good choices on the GOP side.

Trump is, well, Trump but he is not remotely an ideologue. I trhink Trump would have gladly run as a progressive Dem if he thought he would get better results. We would stand a chance of Trump doing a few good things if there were enough public pressure. Cruz, on the other hand, is a religious fanatic on a mission from God. A Cruz presidency would make us long for the good ol' Bush years.

Cruz may be brilliant, but actions like this should make him extremely beatable even though I hate having him this close to the presidency.

But how about Paul Ryan? Extremely extreme, and charming, and he'd also make us long for the good ol' Bush years.

with all the chambers loaded! Each of the Republican putative candidates is horrible. Ryan is owned by the Koch brothers, so would be an extreme libertarian with religious overtones, though maybe not as religiously motivated as Cruz. Ryan is an intellectual lightweight, but Bush got elected so.... Kasich is scary because he would beat Hillary if she were the candidate. He presents as a reasonable person despite being an extremist and will not have anywhere near the negatives of the other candidates. The Democratic Party is making a big mistake by focusing on Trump and Cruz; I'm not sure they're ready for the other possibilities.

45. Kasich has extremist and corruption baggage too.
Tue Apr 12, 2016, 02:48 AM
Apr 2016

In spite of his pretences to moderation, it'd get hauled out. Along with the Kochs, Kasich has been with ALEC since its formation. He was right up over his hairline in the Lehman Bros corruption and collapse.

He also has a way of letting..."old fashioned" attitudes slip in public that would be setting off minority alarms big time, including a new, good one just recently

I will tell you this. The issue of infant mortality is a tough one. We've taken that on, and one of the toughest areas to take on is in the minority community. And the community itself is going to have to have a better partnership with all of us to begin to solve that problem of infant mortality in the minority community, because we're making gains in the majority community.

None of the black people I've ever known needed white people to help stop them killing their babies, and Kasich isn't talking about the effects of poverty here. He's talking black and white. And there are actions while governor, such as a discriminatory "partial" food stamp waiver for instance (partial as in no food stamps for counties with black populations). Minorities would shun him, of course, but this'd cost him with moderate white conservatives and independents too.

I could spend a lot of time on this and need to stop. The more you look into Kasich's background, the more dirt there is. Election tampering/voter suppression. Shift yet more of the tax burden onto working classes.

He's been cagey, separated himself from the Kochs, postured moderate, accepted the Medicaid extension, but if he isn't not-so-secretly with that extremist right-wing crowd that is scheming to make most federal government actions and programs declared unconstitutional, I'll eat my ballot.

The question is whether he will be restrained by the establishment. I heard there's already been some talk by military leaders that they wouldn't follow crazy/illegal orders.

But Donald Trump will never be president, which is a big reason why I think he's less dangerous. I'm pulling for him to beat Cruz for the nomination, or failing that, running as an independent would pretty much guarantee a Dem victory.

If all atheists started saying "God-myth" instead of "God" we might be able to finally change the obsession of our country with religion. This would force believers to have to prove what they are referring to day in and day out. They would have to present objective evidence for their god and for their claim that he gave them the right to rule over society or else continue to hear us say "God-myth" each and every time.

Let's see "One Nation Under God-Myth"
yeah, that sounds about right!!
