I don't care where you fall on the Sanders/Clinton divide, but this recent polling should be a wake-up call.
My opinion, based on this polling is that Sanders is a much better candidate going into this current political cycle. No matter if you are feeling the Bern or with Hillary, the stark fact is that Clinton has enormous baggage going into the General. Whether true or not true, her many "scandals" and "mis-statements" have created a situation where she has an abysmal trust-worthy rating. While she is very popular among Democrats, but she is not outside of the Party. What is her stratagem going to be for the General? What about the Democratic Party? It's not Democrats and the rest of the Left (largely) that are the issue here. It's the other 2/3 of the population.
So here is my message to the politically cynical and the pragmatic among those of us who haven't voted yet; If you don't want Trump, vote for Sanders.

(9,953 posts)...do not agree. Hillary will do fine against Trump. The Republicans will turn Bernie Sanders into a crazed Stalin - and drive his negatives way up. He would be okay, too, but these polls do not factor in the certain negative campaign against him. So, this is not, in my opinion, an argument for Bernie over Hillary. There are others, but this is not one of them.
MrMickeysMom
(20,453 posts)That's likely because you don't get out enough to talk to Republicans, which is a routine for me where I live.. Or, for that matter, phone bank, which is what I've been doing all along across the primary/caucus states. Yes, there are some R's who can't tell the difference between a commie and Bernie, but they can't tie their shoes half the time.
There are no negatives with the majority of persons who will decide this election and get out to vote. Over 50% of the electorate is in that category as Independents. The Republicans who cannot stand Trump would rather either stay home in November or vote Bernie.

(410 posts)Bernie has a whole lifetime of honesty and ideological purity behind him though he has demonstrated the ability to work with the opposition. He is trusted and Hillary is not.

(309 posts)"Bernie's a commie." People have been hearing that since last year, and it doesn't wash...maybe it did initially, but with what scant coverage the media have given Sen. Sanders, people see him differently now. Among all of my blue-collar family ( some union, some not ) in Ohio, and among my family in Florida ( small business owners; vote Republican sometimes, but ALWAYS vote more practical than ideological ) they are all disgusted by Trump, but equally averse to Ms. Clinton. They want Sen. Sanders, based on his plans to resuscitate the middle class. They prosper when America prospers...and the status quo is KILLING them. ( Hint: Ms. Clinton offers only the status quo: that's why she is NOT drawing crowds in the tens of thousands, and that's why her events are closed to the general public***. )
***Not talking about pre-selected crowds of "supporters."

(27,464 posts)and will vote for whatever candidate isn't a Democrat. Democrats are different and the "Bernie or Bust" movement reflects the fact. Furthermore, numerous polls which we were advised were meaningless, told us earlier this year that Bernie had a good chance against Trump while Clinton was going to have problems.
I hope all Democrats get out and vote for the nominee but I know an awful lot who say they will not.

(14,564 posts)CONS are nothing if not incredibly pliable and obedient pods.
Three weeks ago the whole histronics over STOP TRUMP were in full bloom, today, they are dutifully getting behind him.
Meanwhile, they don't use the the quip, "herding cats" when talking about liberals for no reason.
I do suspect that once it is settled, and time passes, there will be a good portion who are digging their heels in now who will bite their lip and vote Hillary when the time comes.
The simple reality is that it is going to play out that she wins the nomination.
What some of these polls are reflecting is where the primary is now - Rs falling behind Trump mostly, Ds still split with Bernie still fighting the good fight.
We really can't get a real sense of how it is looking until a few weeks after the convention and everyone cools off a bit.
Trump was always getting that 40% of the R electorate in the general.
The question is that lingering 15% or so between the rock solid Rs and rock solid Ds ...

(3,284 posts)That's when GOP operatives release the ENTIRE audio and transcripts of
Hillary's Goldman Sachs speeches.
HC is naive if she thinks she can get away with keeping them secret.
If they are not released willingly by HC (as she should do) and mitigated months ahead of time ...
Look for it in mid-to-late October.

(57,936 posts)There, and Trump will see to it that it is released at what will be the "right" time for him. He knows how to. Find and buy things. And someone close to Hillary might doublecross her if someone on Wall Street doesn't.
Hillary is making herself look downright dishonest by not releasing the speeches. Another situation in which the cover-up is probably worse than the truth.
Hillary needs to release the transcripts now.
Her delay makes them appear to be worse than they possibly could be, and her release of them would mean that her embarrassment occurs now rather than right later. Later they will be interpreted most harshly, and more people will be paying attention.
She is demonstrating once again bad judgment and poor strategy.

(6,994 posts)she put together one-hell-of-a treasure chest which included millions in PAC money.
She might have thought she was the anointed one and that with a Billion dollars to work with and the Corporate Mafia on her side she could buy her way into the White House.
It all falls back to one simple fact; If the voters would have wanted Hillary Clinton they would given her the job in 2008.
It is going to be very difficult to wake up on post election morning and discover that
Donald Trump, the fascist had just been elected President.
