We have the news media to give us the raw, unfiltered reality of what is happening in the world. Most of it is very sad like with what happened in orlando. Sometimes its too much to take in a 24 hour news cycle. We need to be able to get away from it for awhile and break the spell by watching other programs to lighten the mood. For example: it was terrible about that racist shooting and killings in that south carolina church over a year ago, but i turned on the Daily show with jon stewart after that happened and he was talking about it almost to the point of crying. That's not why i turned his show on. I wanted to laugh, not just continue to feel bad about what happened.

These comedians have to try and do their jobs, and make us laugh. I don't think Bob Hope showed up on any of his tours depressed and talking about the high casualty rates. He told jokes to take their minds off reality for a while.

On the issue of gun control, many of the politicians and much of the mass media are either unwilling or afraid to take a moral stand on the issue. Nowadays, it's often the comedians that are taking a stand. More power to them.

In terms of entertainment or escapism, there's always Netflix.

Rather, I think you'd prefer that I not use the word escapism to describe... well, escapism.

If that isn't escapism, what is? Note that I never said that some escapism is a bad thing. Dwelling on gloom-and-doom all the time isn't healthy for anyone. Ergo, Netflix.

But I think that suggesting that it's somehow wrong or improper for comedians to speak to moral issues is misguided. Most of the good ones always have, from Charlie Chaplin to George Carlin.

6. A lot has happened since 1945. The news media glosses over the reality while comedians serve it raw.

You want to get away from it all? Try MeTV. Meanwhile the best comedians today have taken up the mantle of social commentary because... someone f***ing well has to.

3. How do I know this has become a totalitarian country?

Because on major media, only the comedians are allowed to tell the truth.

Semi auto handguns and military style long guns have got to go.

I know you gun people don't want to give them up. However, the price of your being able to own your favorite toys has become too high and has been too high for a very long time. You've had your fun. Now it's time to move on.
