I moved into my small motorhome a month ago and I love it ...so far. I'm going to hit the road in a couple months after I have the MH fully outfitted, everything prepared and personal stuff wrapped up. I've been urban boondocking for free for 5 weeks now and its great.

(3,469 posts)I love it. I couldn't watch the video because one of the (few) drawbacks to this lifestyle is my paltry 20 gb internet plan but I suspect I have an idea what he is saying.
One of my favorite bloggers wrote an excellent piece on the environmental advantages of fulltiming. http://www.andybaird.com/Eureka/pages/saving-the-earth.htm

(3,469 posts)We camp out in the middle of nowhere as often as possible. It's not a big hardship with the internet, I just can't watch a lot of videos. I have more data on my phone so I can use that as a supplement, too.

(6,335 posts)He hit all the points really well. Gave me some good ideas too. I think I'll read more of his blog. Do you have satellite internet? Or Verizon?

(3,469 posts)My Verizon hotspot with 20 gigs is my main internet. I have an old iPad that has 3 gigs of ATT and an iPhone with a grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan. I purposely have both AT&T and Verizon so I have a better chance of having coverage in the boonies. AT&T is better in Texas for example while Verizon seems better most other places. We have satellite for TV.
My real waste is that unlimited plan on my iPhone. The phone I have is so tiny I hardly ever use it. I think I'm going to break down and get the 6Plus and just make myself use it and then drop the plan on my iPad.
There is a great website called Technomadia that has really good information about internet for fulltimers. Satellite internet use to be the go to suggestion for people who had to be connected but most people seem to have moved away from that and on to hot spots. Technomadia has information on their site about how you can get a grandfathered unlimited Verizon plan that I have considered. My 20 gig plan is only $8 a gig if I go over so I'll probably just stick with that and try to start using my unlimited AT&T plan more with the bigger phone.
I have lots of good resources if you're interested for when you hit the road. I read and read and read various blogs before we started doing this. Some of my favorites are Wheeling It, Technomadia, Watsons Wander and To Simplify, in addition to Andy's blog. Here are some of those links...

Keep in touch when you hit the road if you have any questions. We've been doing this for four years now and love it. We spend a lot of time in New Mexico but we're in Colorado now and will probably meander around here for a few months.

(6,335 posts)Yes Ive heard Verizon is the way to go for full-timers b/c it has such good coverage. It seems to be the most expensive though but cant be more expensive than my old Comcast home package so I'll probably get that. I have been watching Youtubes about RV'ing but I need to get more serious and start taking notes from the websites like you linked there is so much to learn and consider. Not sure WHEN i'll hit the road I have so much yet to wrap up and prepare. I appreciate the offer for help when I do. Thanks again. Happy trails.
