crushed by LBJ in a landslide. This caused the crazy right wing Bircher KKK'ers to have to crawl back under their rocks for 20 years, until Reagan slithered into the WH in 1981 when they felt so betrayed by him they took over the GOP at the grass roots level and now look what's happened.

That's the difference. The crazy right CAN'T win a general election but we're stuck with them in our local governments, school boards and state legislatures for a long time yet - until 2020 when gerrymandered districts can be reconfigured.
