What The Hell Is Wrong With Donald Trump Supporters?

Whether it’s calling for the assassination of his political rival, or asking a foreign government to hack into the files of the former Secretary of State, Donald Trump is no stranger to saying things that would land the rest of us in prison. The Donald Trump show has gone on for too long, and anyone who still supports him needs to have their head checked out by professionals. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

Scared of people that don't think like them and scared of an education.

he's saying the things the republicans have been thinking and promoting surreptitiously for years, only wouldn't say because they knew that saying it out loud would hurt them at the polls.

now, why would ordinary americans support this? Because they are racist AND stupid (i.e., easily fooled). This has always been true.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-human-beast/201104/conservatives-big-fear-brain-study-finds
Peering inside the brain with MRI scans, researchers at University College London found that self-described conservative students had a larger amygdala than liberals. The amygdala is an almond-shaped structure deep in the brain that is active during states of fear and anxiety. Liberals had more gray matter at least in the anterior cingulate cortex, a region of the brain that helps people cope with complexity.

Many other studies show that they're more influenced by and attentive to negative stimuli, such as "scary" propaganda that they're fed by fear-mongers who tell them that our government is planning all kinds of nefarious things.

In short, many of them are frightened paranoid freaks.

Bringing back good paying factory jobs,
Banning abortion, building a wall, military spending.

Whether or not they believe it, they appreciate somebody saying it. This had a lot of appeal, it's a total load of crap but it sells.

8. I think many are disaffected citizens who have been fucked by this system for years.
Wed Aug 10, 2016, 05:54 PM

People who saw, or grew up middle class and have seen that hollowed out by the "free trade" crap, corporations and capital basically out of control, who think their right to exist and rampage around the world for maximum profit supersedes all rights of society and people.

These people see cities like Detroit look like some bombed out Lebanon. People loosing all they worked for with little or no help from the political class. Con-men and bullshit artists, at all ranks, rewarded for destroying infrastructure and destabilizing whole communities and rewarded richly.

So, a big class of his supporters are people who have probably given up voting, but see this guy Trump come along with a message and point out how much their party has failed them, also, and say, Hmmm. Now, these should be ripe for Bernie, and he may have gotten a few of them, but many were already pulled into the R fold by relentless media propaganda, lies and assorted manipulations to their fear, anger, poor education and bigotry.

So, the bottom line I see is people have been aware that they are getting fucked. They may no understand the who, what or why, but they do see the result. You have two candidates who come along who are clearly outside the standard bearers of the two parties and they do better than anyone as expected.

Not surprising at all.

10. I respectfully disagree to an extent.

I think these are people who live in a separate reality after years of being led by RW media.
They vote like they have a voting fever and believe they are the majority.
They also become voting judges at their local polling place. (Who knows what they do there.)
They can't hear or accept anything that doesn't support their single-minded, illogical belief system.
They can't accept they are wrong and when their argument goes south, they just switch topics.
It is a mental disorder, like OCD, fostered by the brainwashing. It is sad and dangerous because people like Trump, Fox, and whoever else is cashing in on the gullible have convinced them that they are at war with the people next door, Hillary, anyone who disagrees. And they have guns. I just hope I live to see Trump ending up in poverty. This is going to take time and supreme effort to correct and I don't see it coming soon unless Dems commit to being involved. Thanks for reading what this old lady has to say.

15. Sure, there is a core, I think up to 20%, like that. But, there are many more

who are disaffected, as I stated, and let me add, disenfranchised from society.

Also, I do think many more then that 20% have a damaged, or very incomplete view of reality. That is a judgment, as who is to really say mine is much better, but I think it is just because I try to take in much more information from around the world and not be blind to our own party's faults and I try to reevaluate while maintaining empathy and a ethical center.

Regardless, you have an overlap of damaged reality with disenfranchised people in our society. This is further overlaid with their general demeanor. Are they considerate and open, or fearful and closed? As conditioned become tougher, people pull inward and often become less emphatic, more cruel. It's just survival but it is very dangerous for society. That, I believe, as been "the plan" for a long time with the RW oligarchs. Bring us back to a raw state of nature as described by Hobbes:

The pure state of nature or "the natural condition of mankind" was deduced by the 17th century English philosopher Thomas Hobbes, in Leviathan and in his earlier work On the Citizen. Hobbes argued that all humans are by nature equal in faculties of body and mind (i.e., no natural inequalities are so great as to give anyone a "claim" to an exclusive "benefit&quot . From this equality and other causes in human nature, everyone is naturally willing to fight one another: so that "during the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called warre; and such a warre as is of every man against every man". In this state every person has a natural right or liberty to do anything one thinks necessary for preserving one's own life; and life is "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short" (Leviathan, Chapters XIII–XIV). Hobbes described this natural condition with the Latin phrase bellum omnium contra omnes (meaning war of all against all), in his work De Cive.

Now these people, probably over 40% of the country, has helped Bernie greatly, and it has helped Trump, also. Many of these are still holding to the Democrats, or they may not vote if the past is any guide. But not all will hold, and that is a danger. It is a canary in the coal mine of what is happening in this country. I hope the Democratic party is really listening because this won't end after the election. If Hillary wins, and she most likely will, if policies as usual, these trade deals, rampaging capital and corporations, free passes for people who steal and cause trillions in damage while shooting starving people who steal a candy bar continues, you will see this country actually fracture and to what will rise I do not know.

We need to get back to the concepts of Commonwealth, Government is a good thing because it is all of us, and away from the selfishness. Democrats need to look into themselves because it is there, the party has done it before, its roots, its foundations are good. I believe Hillary has it in her to rise to the challenge if it should come To a head in her term. that is one of the big reasons I am supporting her. The other being the alternative is ... unfathomable.

IIRC I think it did a pretty good job of pegging what has happened in the U.S. and even the rise of Isis. It may be a old book (1951) but I really thought it hit some good points.

it is a part of a concerted effort over the last 50 years to damage and destroy the foundations of this government as any form of a liberal democracy, on the principles on which it was founded. To twist its resource to the will of a very few who are of a despicable character. It is very hard to fight this wealthy funded concentrated plan. It needs people of real character, integrity and conviction to pull it back.
