McCain did back peddle on that statement though: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-john-mccain-hillary-clinton-supreme-court-20161017-story.html

McCain's office issued a statement Monday afternoon backing off his pledge of blanket opposition.

"Senator McCain believes you can only judge people by their record and Hillary Clinton has a clear record of supporting liberal judicial nominees," spokeswoman Rachel Dean said. "That being said, Senator McCain will, of course, thoroughly examine the record of any Supreme Court nominee put before the Senate and vote for or against that individual based on their qualifications as he has done throughout his career."

Later in the day, during a campaign stop in Chandler, Arizona, McCain avoided the more strident position when responding to a question from local business officials about the court.

fricking McCain should read the US Constitution which says the Senate should advise and consent about SCOTUS nominees. It doesn't say they should obfuscate and prevent nominees from being put up for a vote. I hope these repukes in Congress are voted out on DonCon's soiled coattails

THIS is what they mean but unfortunately (perhaps deliberately) scattergun at ALL politicians. Republicans like McCain are the insidious virus within the body politic, and need to be extracted by what looks increasingly like a rising tide election.

There's the myth of the "maverick" McCain, who puts principles over party. "Country first."

Then there's the real McCain, a GOP hack like any other. The notion of his unassailable integrity is just a brand that's way past its sell-by date.

Remember, this is the guy who wanted to put Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency to win an election.

I remember once awhile ago, he was a guest on Jon Stewarts show, just around the time the Tea Party was gaining popularity. He had a chance, like all of the Republican leadership, to nip this in the bud, but he went all in. And I remember Stewart kind of gobsmacked asking him "Are you going over to Crazytown?" He just replied with a nervous chuckle. I think that's the last time Ive ever seen him on The Daily Show. He destroyed that "maverick" mantle a long time ago.

Not only is the obvious obstructionism a problem but there is also the underlying philosophy that is wrong. When the Republicans/Conservatives talk about 'balance' on the Supreme Court what they really mean is at least a 5 conservative justice to 4 liberal judges (yes I know that there is something called a moderate but the nominees never seem to fall into that category). I know it has to do with their desire to hold control over all aspects of the government but where does it say the one segment of our citizenry should hold sway over our laws in perpetuity. I have always felt that the balance of the court is a roll of the dice based on when justices retire or die. If the Democrats hold the presidency they get to nominate and if the Republicans hold the presidency it is their chance. Only in cases where a nominee is way beyond the norm either to the left or right should that nominee not be confirmed and that is only after a thorough and fair review of their qualifications.

And that's just the Democrats pick
*rim shot*

And the Democratic pick is a lefty looney compared to the "moderate" Republican pick.

And Trump? He don't care about what is a moderate or an extremist, or left or right, or qualified or unqualified. He'd pick based on who can be or is more easily corruptible to his own business interests.

Your oath and those of your fellow Senators:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

Not only are you violating your sworn oath to support the Constitution of the United States, but you are stating absolutely that you are a domestic enemy of the United States by so freely violating that Constitution. You are not "bearing true faith and allegiance" to our Constitution!

Is that what you apparently spent years in a Vietnamese hell hole protecting? Or are you taking this oath with a "purpose of evasion"?

How is letting him chose a nominee (not an appointee mind you since the Senate deems on such things) not allowing "the people" to participate in the selection process?

This makes zero sense and is all just a bunch of Kabuki hate theatre.

That is not a criticism of Senator McCain; there is PLENTY of ammunition to throw at him for other things. For one, he's a hypocritical, disingenuous, lying sack of shit. Secondly, when he had the opportunity to demonstrate "good presidential judgment", he chose as as vice presidential running mate, perhaps, the only other person who might give tRump a run for his .money in being completely unqualified in every regard. Nonetheless, it would appear that tRump has managed to surpass even .the vile Sarah Palin not only for his greedy, crass, ignorant and boastful behavior but also by his complete lack of empathy for any other human being(s).

And just WHO has been supporting this abomination? Senator McCain!
