9. When I was growing up, THIS was known by all of us.

I was in pre-school when this film was made. I remember many of such films shown before the feature film at the movie theater. Later, when television became common, we saw many of such films on TV, usually late at night. This was common knowledge. These are what I was raised to think were "American values."

we're far too willing to, as the film says, "gamble with the rights of others," it seems to be part of our collective nature, and so far there have always been enough suckers ready to step up and play the game to keep the power mongers afloat.
but this time it's different. i can feel the table turning on the sucker game. this time the collective is resisting the tendency to be suckered by the would-be autocrat. this time we can learn. maybe this is the time we finally get it right. maybe.
