Growing up in school I remember them showing us movies like Judgment at Nuremberg, Paths of Glory, Glory, Schindler's List, and Mississippi Burning. All are great films and very illuminating, but I would add Iron Jawed Angels to any list of required viewing for young people.

I didn't know people were so abusive in trying to stop women from voting. it's amazing how much America's policies have shifted since then.

Here's a British suffrage movie that's currently on HBO:

"it's amazing how much America's policies have shifted since then. "

Respectfully, although we have the right to vote and own property, we still don't have the right to control our own bodies and reproductive health care decisions in many states and in all Catholic hospitals. In fact, on that aspect we've slid back decades in most red states as a matter of policy. We were added to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in part by racists who did not want a black woman to be able to use it to beat out a white woman for a job (see Rep. Howard Smith's argument after he added the one word amendment to include "sex" in Title VII).

Then take a look at all the anti-gay and anti-transgender laws passed or attempted this year by GOP lawmakers and entire states; homophobia and transphobia are nothing more than slight revisions of misogyny. Many of the laws would allow for discrimination against single mothers and women who have abortions as well.

Now imagine where we would be on women's issues and other important social issues if women still couldn't vote on it.
