(3,827 posts)The same type of Russian propaganda was spread on FB to help elect Trump, right? In the social media world which site do you think has more influence? Twitter? Facebook? It would be Facebook since they almost 2 billion users compared to Twitter's 350 million users.

(3,827 posts)Are you saying Twitter should have censored Trump/cancelled his account for sending out tweets lol? All Trump did was tweet-- The Russians however used both Twitter and Facebook to spread fake news. And since FB has almost 2 billion users then I'd have to say that more people ) read fake news on FB than Twitter-- All of those anti-Hillary articles spun around there every minute in rural America.

(960 posts)"Censorship" my ass. They're a private company and can do whatever they want. Right now they've reduced the sophistication of our politics by allowing elected officials and political extremists a platform for propaganda and otherwise inane bullshit..

(6,344 posts)This is nuts! The DHS wants to know who is behind a twitter account that is about resisting Trump's immigration agenda? Am I understanding this right?

(6,344 posts)Plus, when I looked at a few of the posts, it looks fine to me. They are actually posting statistics and such.
The fun part is that by the governments actions the twitter account has tripled! in participation and received tons of media coverage. So, it backfired on them. Ha!

(15,645 posts)though the other part is pretty fucking disturbing. I've seen a lot to be alarmed about in my 66 years, but this takes the cake ... and I'm a hell of a lot more angry about GOP crap than ever before. Think I'll go ahead and attend that Indivisible "Nonviolence Workshop" here in this sleepy little town tomorrow night -- I may need it!

Good for you going to Indivisible "Nonviolence Workshop". It is important to keep our cool, even though we simmer underneath.

(22,800 posts)Twitter account that was criticizing the government's immigration policy. Twitter held strong for the First Amendment. For that they should be thanked.
