In 2012, a friend who is naturalist for Md. for Fort Frederick, says he got called over to Big Pool by police who thought someone had thrown paint into the water. I believe it was orange or red. I remember algae was growing everywhere that year in any standing water. I just cleaned and disinfected three watering buckets yesterday.

The park service is woefully underfunded. I've done community service events around the monuments but it's not enough. Draining, cleaning, and refilling the reflecting pool requires professionals.
