False statements were supposedly made to a federally insured financial institution in connection with a loan and that loan went into default not long after being made.. If there are allegations of false statements made in connection with a loan where a federally insured financial institution has suffered a loss, there is usually an investigation. It is a crime to make false statements to a federally insured financial institution in connection with a loan. This law is in effect because if the federally insured financial institution suffers a loss, then the taxpayers are on the hook.

The reports that I have seen indicate that the bank was promised that a donor was about to make a $1 million donation that year when the donor was planning to make the donation only upon their death. The loan went into default and the bank suffered a real financial loss. That donor was interviewed and that donor's statements are evidently inconsistent with the facts represented to the federally insured financial institution.

Again, I stopped watching Cenk a long time ago because Cenk is full of crap. You are welcome to believe Cenk but I rely on facts. I unfortunately had to watch enough of this video to confirm that Cenk is still full of crap. Listening to Cenk was painful.

Cenk and the TYT are more suited for JPR and other sites where facts do not matter.

The hearsay concerns the allegations against Senator Sanders, not his wife.

Here's what the GOP politician actually said:

Turner told WCAX-TV that friends at the bank described pressure from Sanders' office, but he says those friends didn't have direct knowledge of the negotiations. Turner says he told Toensing about it in May 2016, adding that he would not have brought it to the attention of federal investigators.

The Washingon Post pulled its story , as did the New York Times.

This is a real investigation https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/federal-prosecutors-step-up-probe-of-land-deal-pushed-by-wife-of-bernie-sanders/2017/07/10/e3fc3e72-625a-11e7-8adc-fea80e32bf47_story.html?utm_term=.dde763ae2b24

A federal investigation into a land deal led by Jane Sanders, the wife and political adviser of Sen. Bernie Sanders, has accelerated in recent months — with prosecutors hauling off more than a dozen boxes of records from the Vermont college she once ran and calling a state official to testify before a grand jury, according to interviews and documents.

A half-dozen people said in interviews in recent days that they had been contacted by the FBI or federal prosecutors, and former college trustees told The Washington Post that lawyers representing Jane Sanders had interviewed them to learn what potential witnesses might tell the government.

The investigation centers on the 2010 land purchase that relocated Burlington College to a new campus on more than 32 acres along Lake Champlain. While lining up a $6.7 million loan and additional financing, Sanders told college trustees and lenders that the college had commitments for millions of dollars in donations that could be used to repay the loan, according to former trustees and state officials.

Trustees said they later discovered that many of the donors had not agreed to the amounts or timing of the donations listed on documents Jane Sanders provided to a state bonding agency and a bank. That led to her resignation in 2011 amid complaints from some trustees that she had provided inaccurate information, former college officials said.

The land deal, the officials said, became a financial albatross for the 160-student school, contributing to its closure last year.

Again, Cenk is full of crap and is wrong on the facts.

Cenk hates the Democratic Party and lies about the facts. Cenk may be popular on JPR but Cenk is not suited for DU where facts matter

published another article after this, "Federal prosecutors step up probe of land deal pushed by wife of Bernie Sanders"

Didn't check NYP, but probably newer articles there also.

I'm torn between at least some respect for her having big dreams and ambitions and exasperation over this huge failure to achieve them and the disaster brought on that nice little college, and of course the reasons leading to federal involvement.

The links are in lapucelle's post above. She can also tell you about how the church was able to make a few million from the settlement, and that the problem is not civil liability but alleged bank fraud, false claims on the documents Jane Sanders submitted.

Of course, it's pretty clear the facts are irrelevant to a number of people, for whom Sanders will always come first. There is a lot of that kind of thing going around among voters across the political spectrum these days, as we are undergoing a transformation from a nation based on the rule of law to one based on the rule of men.

Professor Plum Thank you for taking time to read the articles. Important to note how strongly Bishop Coyne stated that the Catholic Church was not notified that it was part of this lawsuit & emphatically stated that no harm was done to the Catholic Church & wanted no part of partisanship politics.
