Another thing that is clearly lost on Big Pharma defenders is that the people who rake in all the money on drugs once they hit the market are all dildos like Martin Shkreli- The scientists who actually develop the stuff might get a little raise next year.

(2,574 posts)Our hard earned tax dollars pay for the investment in essential drugs and then we get nothing back, in fact pay more than all other countries, get gouged to access our own investments. It's like we all buy stock in a drug yet when it succeeds "our stock" becomes worthless.
Nice system Pharma has set up. They cheat us out of our investment, gouge us, Medicare, Medicaid for access to our own investments, then off shore the profits and don't even pay local or federal taxes.
I've tried explaining the notion of Our Commons to Republicans and they simply don't get it. To them it's okay that private corps are able to buy/lease for pennies on the dolllar what we have invested in for our lifetime, what our fore bearers invested and fought for too. You see it here with big Pharma taking all the profits, of leases on federal land, of even selling off our WPA treasure post offices.
Republicans don't even flinch at the idea of privatizing our national infrastructure!
I'm glad Bernie is pursuing this. Luckily he has a much better shot now at getting media attention for this than he ever did before 2016. Shows want him on, he's one of the few politicians who actually attracts viewers. But big Pharma dominates sponsorship of our national news and bankrolls the majority of our legislators. So who knows if Sanders' message will get out much.
