8. Luntz may be a putz but he's anything but stupid

He knows exactly what he's doing, and he has made himself a bloody fortune doing it for 20 years. He is an evil mercenary genius with an Uriah Heep ("very 'umble" ) aw shucks routine. He has earned every cent of the untold millions the Republicans have paid him to make unpalatable, detrimental, or downright illegal Republican policies sound wonderful to their base. If Trump were to declare war on California, Luntz would find a way to package it to make it sound like it was "relief for Arizona, Nevada and Oregon." What's more, the Republicans would swallow it, even the ones in Orange County watching Trump's bombers demolish their villas from their beaches.

Sure, he may make himself seem laughable with his $5.99 toupée and his "neighborhood fat boy" girth, but don't fall for it. That's what he wants. I repeat: don't fall for it. He is NOT clumsy, and he is NOT harmless. Every TV episode he puts on is carefully choreographed, every word he crafts for his clients, every phrase he utters on talk show rounds like this--every word and its effect on the Republican base is carefully thought out beforehand. He knows exactly what he's doing, and he is VERY good at it.
