(19,204 posts)were most likely raised - and grew up in - households where this type of behavior was prevalent. From first hand experience I can say that women are definitely considered second rate citizens in Republican households. I saw it with my mother and sister, and I was expected to follow in my father's footsteps as "the man" of any household I was part of. I didn't follow in my father's footsteps, and was regularly chastised because of it.
I couldn't live with myself being that way. I also grew up in the 60s when women were starting to flex their muscles, and I learned from them what a man in that era was expected to be. Republican women never appealed to me anyway. They were far too structured and uptight. I was definitely a free spirit, and preferred women who were the same.
These women may not have learned that what their families expect from them is not who they are. They might not have had the courage to break away from the mold that was fashioned for them. I'm not trying to make excuses for them, but I can understand why they may have turned out the way they did.
