Kind of tear-jerking too, for us old Beatles fans. He's the one who stayed in the UK and raised his kids there, and when he's walking and the Liverpool people come up to him-- "My brother was named for you, Paul!" "Your song was played at my dad's funeral"-- it's so clear that he's still theirs.

I'm old now... and was too young when the Beatles were huge... but I always loved their music.

(8,121 posts)I wonder if it also wasn't in part a response to John's song for his mother, "Julia," who was killed in a car accident when he was 17.
They often answered each other or were inspired by each other, resulting in pairs of songs. John wrote "Strawberry Fields Forever" about his childhood playground, and Paul answered with "Penny Lane." So maybe John writing "Julia" prompted Paul to write his own song about his mom, who died when he was fourteen.
Just a thought.
