Thing is, the FBI CAN (and probably did!) such a "deep investigation" that certainly would have exposed the acknowledged heavy drinking and potential sex abuse" that Kav engaged in during both high school and college.
How do I know this... because at one point in my employment history I was required to get a clearance to work at a "place" inside the Federal Government. To this day I can't tell anyone where that was or what the clearance level was... all I can state is that I had a security clearance at one point (now long since lapsed).
To get this clearance, the FBI spent over 6 months investigating my life. They went back to when I was a small child (3 and 4 years old) and found the neighbors where I lived then and asked them about me... what was I like, what did I do, etc. They called every friend form high school, all of my old teachers, my ex-girlfriends... people I barely knew. They asked about my character, my academic record, my personal habits... they tracked down people I did odd jobs for (I once cut weeds out of soybean fields by hand just before harvest for neighbor farms)... they found out where I worked for a few months slinging burgers... they had all my tax returns, my bank accounts, my then wife's bank accounts, her family's history, etc.
How do I know they did all this... one thing is that they told me they were going to do it. Another is that all of these people I hadn't talked to in literally years or decades starting calling me or my parents and saying things like "Jeez, what has lapfog gotten into, is he wanted by the FBI for something?".
All as part of a background check.
My point is... I can't imagine the FBI DID NOT FIND OUT ABOUT ALL THIS SHIT.
They are under NO obligation to make such knowledge public. Just the opposite. I'm thinking the White House and potentially members of the Judiciary committee in the Senate also knew about this stuff as a result of a "deep background check".
