(1,103 posts)didn't the media publicize his bad reputation? His RECORD, which I keep on mentioning every opportunity I get. Everyone has a RECORD, even if there is NONE. If someone doesn't have one, they should first go and get one, so people know what they have to offer. And someone without a record has no business applying for the presidency of this country. Period.
Candidates who don't have a record and who run on promises are the least qualified. Deeds are what count. A RECORD.
I understand Texas knew what W. was like. And the rest of the country was unaware. Where was our media in all this?
As far as the media is concerned right now---once again, they are selecting whom we will be considering---and leaving out others. Note who are interviewed CONSTANTLY ----and who are not.
Have I mentioned "RECORD" enough? The media is responsible for getting information to us. All of it. Now, not after the elections.

(27,805 posts)All during the Republican primaries, they followed him around. He was on TV constantly. His grossness was overlooked.
I guess it's easier for the media to cover big rallies than to do the leg work and see what the normal candidates were doing - smaller events, one-on-one interactions with voters, developing real (and complicated, sorry) plans for this country.
Nope, easier to go up to a big rally and turn on the camera. I do blame the media for creating this Frankenstein's monster. If they'd ignored him at the beginning, like they did with a lot of other candidates, he never would have gotten the momentum he did. Of course, the Republican's winner-take-all primaries didn't help either. It gave him too much of a padded lead over the other candidates, who were splitting whatever there is of a sane vote in the Republican party.
And they should have been ignoring him long before he decided to run for president. Giving Trump one on one interviews for major networks was absurd for stupid crap like Obama's birth certificate. The man always managed to get publicity he did not merit, but somehow the media came running and let him ramble on like the clownish buffoon that he is.
Trump was an oddity, a train wreck, hardly a newsworthy individual, but over the years journalists treated him like he was a legitimate individual and rarely challenged any of the off-the-wall crap he said. They were enablers.

(26,286 posts)and its members like Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell types are what created and enabled him and they are still enabling him and they clearly have no intention of stopping which is why they need to be removed from office.
The media bears a lot of responsibility for where we are now. Trump played them, like he's done for decades and they fell for it. Because no one really believed he would be elected, they didn't take him seriously and do the necessary investigations. They sure did cover Hillary's emails a lot though.

Definition
Sunk cost fallacy (also called the "sunk cost effect," "sunk cost heuristic," "Concorde fallacy," "argument from waste," "investment trap," "escalation of commitment," "irrational escalation" and "escalation bias."
In economics, a sunk cost is any cost that has already been paid and cannot be recovered. The sunk cost fallacy is a mistake in reasoning in which the sunk costs of an activity - instead of the future costs and benefits - are considered when deciding whether to continue the activity. The sunk cost fallacy makes it more likely that a person or an organization continues with an activity in which they have already invested money, time, or effort, even if they would not start the activity had they not already invested in it. The greater the size of the sunk investment, the more people tend to invest further, even when the return on added investment appears not to be worthwhile.
...
Psychologists cite "cognitive dissonance," "plausible deniability" and "regret avoidance" as reasons for the sunk cost fallacy: Continuing one's past behavior, in this case extending and enlarging a prior commitment that otherwise does not make economic sense, is seen as justifying our past behavior, maintaining the appearance that we did not make a mistake, and avoiding the regret that we would experience by stopping the activity in which the investment was made.5

(7,725 posts)even on their best days. These people are admitting they were wrong. That's huge in a day and age where the presdident lies literally ALL the time. What choice do we really have but to welcome them and hope they truly see the light? I dunno.

(7,725 posts)On top of the sentiment wo even a bit. The words 'fake media' shouldn't be uttered in this room without good grounds, or discussing fox. It's a don t concept that needs to be quashed, hard. The media is going to save us. Even kidding around about it should be verboten. Just me though. I know I'm going to watch what I say too. Some folks just read the subject lines.

But, you know, fear works. It really does. And that is exactly the kind of campaign Trump ran - fear based.
To win, we're going to have to replace fear with hope.

Yeah, they were stupid for the initial vote. Still, it would be easy to say nothing or even double down on their mistake. I hope they DO go to the polls and vote Democratic and aren't just saying that.
And then there's "Rusher"....

During the campaign, anyone with even a modicon of curiosity would have suspected most of tRump's statements. We did, many outside America did, but few other Americans (or our useless media) checked or brought these issues to light.
They were asleep at the wheel and fell for the flim-flam and con.......

I have heard enough from the brain-dead Trump cult. Enough from them. Give the rest of us a voice. Let us be heard!
