(205,320 posts)Strange that he chose to address this issue today with all the breaking news, but he's apparently been questioned about this and it irked him.
Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)...and he went off about Stan Lee?!
Also, just curious, my husband and I watched the show on our home theater screen, and we both noticed something strange. Any time he brought up Russia in his interview with Coulter, her hands trembled. When I first saw it, I thought maybe it was just a tic, but it happened again. My husband paused the show and asked if I noticed her shaking; I did. The rest of the interview she didn't seem to shake, so we found that interesting that "Russia" seemed to 'disarm' her.
Hmmmmm.
Rhiannon12866
(205,320 posts)I figured that we just had to get through her interview to get to the more interesting guests. I have no doubt that it happened, though - I'll have to watch again. And pay more attention.
Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)If we had watched it in the den, we likely wouldn't have seen it, but on a giant movie screen, it was much more obvious.
Rhiannon12866
(205,320 posts)It's actually being repeated right now, but it's past the Coulter interview. I often watch it more than once - I usually have the TV on while I'm on DU, mostly MSNBC, but there's usually not much on during weekends.

(53,956 posts)I thought it was arrogant and dismissive of an artform he doesn't understand or subscribe to.
SunSeeker
(51,550 posts)I think he understands them quite well.
Comic books are not great literature. Sure there are some clever ones, but the vast majority are infantile, largely sexist, and formulaic. I also agreed with his suggestion that they feed the same need for escapism that video games do, and that video games are an obsession that is often detrimental to the real relationships in men's lives.
I know that assessment really angers comics lovers. You don't need to flame me to prove it.
Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)I don't think he understands the contribution to culture, including the stories, the concepts, and the art. His conflating video games with comics also shows how uneducated he is about the topic.
Disagreeing with your opinion is not flaming you.

(25,511 posts)I have absolutely no interest in animation, comics, video games, or movies where everything's computerized. But so what. Why people get mad and take things personally when others don't like everything they do, I have no idea.

(31,169 posts)I think there's room for comics and comic-book thinking in adulthood, but to obsess over one genre at the expense of other forms of escapism and/or art forms diminishes one's capacity to learn and grow.

I really liked what he had to say.

(102,260 posts)But, I once made an innocent faux pas with our dearly missed Khephra, referring to comic books as "cartoons". I meant nothing of it, just used poor terminology, but even though he merely corrected me and there was no argument whatsoever, it still remains with me. I could tell, though, that these kind of misunderstandings hurt him.
So, no, I'm not into the genre but I respect those who are.

(1,349 posts)I wish AT&T would bring HBO back to Dish Network already. Grrrr!
Rhiannon12866
(205,320 posts)His show is often discussed here, but I know not everyone here gets HBO and some don't have TV. It's frustrating that they leave out segments, last week it was the John Kasich interview, this week it was Michael McFaul (except for Overtime). But I choose the "official" version since I know it won't disappear.

(9,696 posts)I need the dose of sanity that is Bill Mahar.
SunSeeker
(51,550 posts)But it was interesting to hear Bill Maher say that Coulter supported AOC's 70% top tax bracket. Odd that he would point this out AFTER his interview with Coulter.
Rhiannon12866
(205,320 posts)I was pleased when I heard that Dan Savage was going to be on, he wouldn't have let her get away with anything - but then I assumed she'd be on the panel. Silly me!

but that's good. Now I don't have to watch that part. Right to Dan Savage.

(28,793 posts)but i never watch when coulter is on. she's a new level of disgusting.
Rhiannon12866
(205,320 posts)I have to admit I took my dog out while she was on. I don't know why he insists on having RW guests. His audience definitely aren't fans.
barbtries
(28,793 posts)that she is not a person to be giving air time to. she's radical, fringe, hateful, yuck.
Auggie
(31,169 posts)She is not a constructive element to the show. He should not have her back.
Rhiannon12866
(205,320 posts)He's had on Rick Santorum, S.E. Cupp and Amy Holmes, not to mention Geraldo. And he said he didn't care when he lost all those Twitter followers. His previous show was Politically Incorrect, after all. I just think it's too bad he didn't have her on the panel with Dan Savage - that's what I hoped for...
barbtries
(28,793 posts)he would run rings about her bullshit
Lock him up.
(6,928 posts)And he can't even stop her from spewing her poisonous venom?
What's that for? She's in a big part responsible for the suffering of countless families!

(205,320 posts)That's why I post the "official" versions, but they inexplicably didn't include the Michael McFaul interview, so we can see it here - thanks!

Bill Maher is an asshole. 'Nuff said.
