(18,672 posts)I ve never heard her speak, but she is wonderful. She needs to be President or hold a position high up in the next Democratic cabinet. She has a very soothing, positive quality I cant describe, but hearing her voice and words is like a healing salve covering the current GOP nastiness.

(37,648 posts)People just like her. A natural leader with a positive can-do attitude. Here I am, wanting to vote for her, and she's not even running for anything!

(37,648 posts)The thing about Af. American women who have risen to a place of prominence, esp if they come from modest beginnings, is that they must be excellent, and they must be tough. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten to where they are. You can get away with being mediocre, if you have everything going for you. But that's not true if you're starting with prejudice against you and roadblocks at every turn. There is probably no other demographic in the country than Af. American women who have had feet placed on their backs to prevent them from rising...in wages, in positions, in deserved respect.
For her to stand there, with her ease of speaking, well-thought out speech writing, expert delivery, addressing the nation - she must be very tough, very confident, have people skills out the wazoo, and very smart. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been standing there last night.
I can only imagine what she encountered along the way. I can imagine how white conservative males see her ("she'd be great leading the local volunteer organization, or as an office manager...but a leader in politics? Who does she think she is?" ) It would be a mistake, I think, to underestimate her. I'm impressed.

(713 posts)She is very well-spoken, and shows a good mix of toughness combined with compassion. She has star quality. I think she might run for the U.S. Senate (can anyone confirm that?).
Anyway, great 10 minute speech. She covered a lot of ground. Her focus on voting rights as the foundation of our democracy is spot on. It is the one right from which all other rights flow. No voting, no democracy, no freedom, no opportunity.
I look forward to seeing her more on the national stage. She has real talent. People like her give me hope for the future.
