I know people who donated to that site (or at least claimed they did). These people are stupid beyond belief. Just look at most of the ads on Faux. Gold share rip-offs and reverse mortgages. No shortage of scam artists that prey on stupid people and there's no more fertile stupid people hunting ground than the land of deplorables.
