Furthermore, It's too hot and most of the marches I've attended have gotten poor media coverage and do little to change the current Fascist Republican regime. How and where can my time and effort be more effective?

(8,203 posts)I will be using my time in support of Mark Kelly at the local level in AZ...Mcsalley just got clocked for using campaign funds 2014.
Arizona Republican Sen. Martha McSally has agreed to pay a fine of more than $23,000 to settle campaign finance violations from 2014..
This race is of utmost importance in restoring a Democratic Majority in the Senate....we already told mcsalley we don't want her representing AZ..Sinema won..and then the Gov of AZ, Dodocy (ducey), gave her John Mccains seat..

(2,824 posts)Local races are key to building back the Democratic majority. I will be working for Cindy Axne in
IA District 3. We cannot afford to loose any single Representative and Republicans are really gunning for her.

(43,286 posts)online, in local community newspapers, their message boards. patch.com for example. it's not necessary to foment demonstrations with radical ideas, marches, or sound bites. Seems to me what's needed is balance, to answer the MAGAt positions with understated accuracy, logic, reason, and historical fact.
Give them no room to warp more minds.

(36,509 posts)The last time this happened was the financial crisis of 2008. We should all have our rep/senators numbers in our phone & call them once a week. At least. In 15 minutes you can google what issues they are voting on, compose a brief message, & make three calls. Have some generic messages ready to go, too, for issues that are important to you, like the border situation, climate change, healthcare, etc. If someone is up for re-election, remind them that you will be paying attention to their voting record. If your rep/senators vote in a positive way, or voice a view you're in agreement with, call & give them a verbal high five. Don't forget to leave your name & zip code. I will say it again, we should be filling the email/vmail boxes of every Member of Congress so those boxes are full every day. This would be so much more effective than a protest or march because they absolutely can't ignore us when we call & write.
on edit: In 2020, my time & money will be devoted to the democratic challenger to Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO).

(9,090 posts)the 20-1 talk radio is the only unique advantage the right has - because it has gone unchallenged.
it's the big reason protests don't work any more. on the local or national level protestors can be yelled over by a few blowhard liars on the local radio stations, or all 1500 of them in the case of national protests. and they can keep it up all day for as long as it takes after protestors go home to enable republican politicians and media to ignore them.
i'll bet none of the protestors going through union station in NY to get to the OWS protests had a clue that one of the loudest and oldest RW limbaugh stations in the state/country was right there int eh building, while limbnaugh was calling them long haired unemployed maggot infested commies and paid callers were telling audiences of millions that they couldn't get to work on time and there was trash everywhere. that same shit could be heard aimed at the local level protests by local blowhards
there are at least 88 major universties that broadcast sports on more than 260 limbaugh stations - many of the loudest in the country. they depend on those associations to attract advertising. those universities are endorsing trump, global warming denial, defunding and privatizing public ed, deregulation, racism, and so on. any protests at those unis to get them to look for apolitical alternatives will cause major republican screaming fits and that will get media attention. even if the uni does nothing, advertisers will flee ALL RW radio.
and with AI enhanced transcription it's a LOT easier cheaper and faster (like with sonix.ai) to record, digitize, and list advertisers and associate them with the bullshit and hate without actually listening.
the combination will cause the advertising industry to destroy the 20-1 monopoly that the russians have been piggybacking by forcing them to ask clients if they really want to support trump, racism, kids in cages, etc. finally applying market demand to the hate and lies will destroy the monopoly.

(39 posts)"People will be marching in the streets" is an expression, not a political strategy. This isn't the 1800s. A meme shared on Facebook is more effective these days.
