"A local Ohio reporter grilled President Obama forcefully about his controversial so-called "kill list" on Tuesday. Obama has been making an aggressive effort to speak to local reporters during the 2012 campaign, and Ben Swann, a reporter for Fox 19 in Cincinnati, used some of his minutes to press him about the list, which has the names of people who the administration has selected for targeted drone strikes. Press reports about the program have been the subject of heated political arguments on Capitol Hill. Swann was remarkably frank about the interview in a "Reality Check" segment. It was, in several ways, a tougher, more skeptical segment than viewers would find on many a national news program...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

(8,084 posts)I applaud the Journalist. I believe we the people are lied to more by our Government than most other countries. And I am afraid of what we will have to answer for, down the road, because of the choices our elected officials have made through out history.
I could never Vote for Romney mostly because he doesn't want my Vote, but this takes the shine off my President for me. Not that I thought he was perfect but I am not a war monger and I don't delight in cold blooded murder not even of Osama bin Laden
and I worked at the Pentagon during 9/11. I was 7 months pregnant when the nose of the plane stopped just short of my desk in the A ring.
However, I know Osama has 44 children and lots of follwers so we need to be careful with all the celebrating about his death. we can't possible wipe out all of his supporters, and they are very patient people.

(618 posts)the President's actions in this case are clearly unConstitutional, and he knows it.
He's a Constitutional law professor, for god's sake...

(4,443 posts)they are trying to make it "legal", doesn't make this new. Whether it's the CIA, the FBI, the Mafia, Homeland Security, NASA, the military, whoever...and whether it's legal, illegal, or a grey area, this has been happening for centuries. Look at the Bush/Cheney torture tactics. This government and all others have been getting away with killing their own citizens if it suits their needs for centuries. Why haven't I heard mention of the "Fusion Camps"? They have been being built for a decade now and not a peep about them. They are all over the country waiting for "the citizens" to get a little too unruly for the hopeful 1%-er dictators. Talk about that, Cenk. The only person I've heard even mention this fact at all was Randy Rhodes years ago on Air America. Thank you, Randy, for trying to enlighten Americans. You surprise me, Cenk.

(466 posts)President Obama and many Democrats. The Democrats are right on virtually every other issue (which is why they still get my vote), but they almost seem no different than the republicans on this issue, except that they're more subtle about the way they go about things.
Honestly though, I think this obsession on "national security" is something that's starting to transcend party lines. It's the government as a whole getting too much power in this arena. I never buy into the "big government" meme, but in this case, the detractors have a point.
I mean, it's one thing to order a strike on Bin Ladin, a decision which I still commend as righteous and daring, but another to order strikes on American citizens without due process.
