This is what diplomats are being killed over??? This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen - no exaggeration! I understand that Muslims in the Arab world may not get that we have freedom of speech. After all, we have supported dictators in the region for decades. And in their view, we have a government that is omnipotent and can do anything. The Muslims may not comprehend that our government cannot stop movies/films like this from being made. But this film - if you can even call it that - is beyond stupid. It is absolutely the most childish, terribly acted piece of shit that I think I've ever watched. And people in the Arab world are SO outraged that they begin killing people? Seriously? We have to step back from this and realize that ANY religious fundamentalist is a danger to everyone, everywhere.
I know that many of you may say that the action of a few Muslims do not represent the feelings of the entire region. To which I would say, before the leaders of Egypt and Afghanistan condemned the killing of Americans, they first condemned this ridiculous film. This would indeed be the best of all possible worlds if it didn't have religion.

(101,347 posts)Time and again, in your OP you talk about the killing - which happened in the Bangahzi attack, not the invasions of embassies in other countries. The Bangahzi attack, with RPGs, and a secondary attack on the safe house to which most of the personnel were evacuated, was quite different. And when the crowd at the Bangahzi attack found the ambassador, they took him to hospital. It's quite possible there was no actual genuine popular protest against the video at Benghazi; it may only have been what the attackers wanted it to look like, under cover of which they launched the attack.

Some DUers think it is irresponsible to post the video here. But I say, if people are curious let them watch it.

(7,875 posts)for me to determine that I didn't have 13 minutes to spare for this sort of shit.
This piece of poorly produced propaganda is clearly designed to provoke a (hopefully violent) response from fundamentalist Muslims. Ever since that thing with the Dutch cartoonist being fatwa'd for drawing Mohamed, right wingers everywhere have been pulling stunts, trawling for terrorism. And that's what this is; a deliberate attempt to elicit violence out of crazies with reckless disregard for the innocent lives it will endanger.

(155 posts)spent 5 MILLION dollars for this piece of shit? Where did the money go because it certainly isn't up there on the screen!

(45,984 posts)The film combines the skillful artistic execution of Plan 9 from Outer Space with the universal love found in Birth of a Nation.
Apart from its technical failings, the film simply reeks of visceral hatred for Muslims. It is the kind of hatred that knows no truth and is based on no facts. It is juvenile in its demeanor and ugly in its presentation.
One might suppose that Mr. Bacile, apparently a Coptic Christian from the Middle East, has experienced some genuine discrimination or persecution at the hands of Muslims in the course of his life. If so, we should have compassion for his pain. However, this expression is so misdirected as to make the founder of the Islamic faith the object of its scorn rather than the actual petty people caused Mr. Bacile pain. The Prophet Mohammad lived 1400 years ago and has nothing to do with any slight Mr. Bacile has experienced. Nor can we say that this kind of behavior is unique to Muslims. Persecution of minority groups is as old as the hills. Just ask any American; we have quite a history of it ourselves that includes enslaving Africans and murdering Native Americans. It would be better for Mr. Bacile to direct his wrath at that hatred. Instead, he has singled out a billion people who worship differently than he does and incites discrimination and persecution against them.
The film has most certainly inspired hatred and persucution. Chris Stevens is dead simply because he was an American diplomat.
Mr. Bacile apparently lacks the wisdom to see that discrimination and persecution is not just wrong when it happens to a Copt, but when it happens to anybody.

Alas, I fear Gypsy, Crow and Tom Servo would commit suicide by opening the airlocks after being forced to watch it for ten minutes. I know that in their place I certainly would!

(12,882 posts)the response to it - real or contrived, is stupid, and the concept of religion is stupid. I don't care WHAT deity you feel righteous about worshipping. Imagine a world without the idiocy of numerous imaginary superiors to fear and build monuments to.
