(32,723 posts)....including some spectacular views from their traffic helicopter.
There were 10,000 people at Griffith Observatory watching the end of an era with lots of parents bringing their kids.
Lots of crying.

(19,089 posts)My posting on FB:
I began my aerospace career in Downey, CA, working on the brand new Space Shuttles rolling off the assembly line in the early 80s. Today, the last of them to take flight, Space Shuttle Endeavor, SN: OV105, flies from Houston to California; It's final resting place. I am sure I speak for thousands upon tens of thousands of assemblers, technicians and engineers who worked on these awesome vehicles when I say : Thanks for your service, Endeavor ... You are a magnificent example of what human beings can do when they are dedicated to a noble cause .... I still have a few years to go yet before I get to retire ....
I was 24 years old then .... I am now in my mid fifties and still working at the same company (different division) ....
The fleet is retired .... The era of the 'Space Pickup Truck' is over ....
All respect to the memory of the 14 who were lost ....

(9,298 posts)I missed the live event, but that first video gave me goosebumps. What a thrill and great that thousands of people witnessed it.
