I don't know that you need to change your name, but yes, the word “putz” is used in non-Jewish communities in the United States. It is not a swear word as we use it. Mostly it refers to someone who was unfortunately missed when common sense or brains were handed out.Jan 30, 2018

What it really means...is a stupid, idiotic, selfish, ass*ole...That is what it really means (from my experience in hearing and using that word for many, many, and many years..)

Putz, in Yiddish, means simply "penis" or, by extension, a jerk, particularly an incompetent, stupid person. In terms of a "selfish asshole" (your phrase), he would better be described as a schmuck.
