Republicans really haven't had policy beyond tax cuts for the rich and blocking Democratic bills, even bipartisan ones. Oh, and rubber stamping unqualified judges. They don't need policy. They're the party of us vs. them and they're rolling out new voter suppression programs all over the country. They're spooked and that makes them united and dangerous.
I agree that the carnival barker Dumdum will be a hard act to follow and I can't think of a single man who lusts for the job who can pull that off, not even Schwarzeneggar saying his famous lines and mugging for the camera. It's just not going to work.
Unless they raid a megachurch and draft a pompadoured conman from there, I don't see them achieving the sort of razzle dazzle their obedient flocks are used to. And pompadoured conmen don't want to take that big a pay cut.
Oh, packaging and marketing can work wonders in normal years, but nothing is going to be normal for a long time.
The time for blandly evil men will be in 2028. If that party hasn't collapsed into a puddle of putrefaction by then, that's when it's going to get really scary.
