(205,344 posts)But now that I've watched for awhile, she's become one of my favorites, smart and well spoken - and as anti-Trump as you can get. She said that she ceased being a Republican when Sarah Palin was chosen as the Vice Presidential nominee.

(8,052 posts)how someone that intelligent and empathetic ends up being a Republican and working for someone like the W. Generally it has to do with personal connections--family was Republican for generations, friends at college, etc.
Time was there were a number of Republicans I knew and respected and even trusted, though we disagreed on most everything political. Over time they've either gone over entirely to the Dark Side, or have ceased being Republicans, at least for now.
Now there isn't a single Republican I can name for whom I have any respect, let alone trust.
I wonder what's going to happen to all the folks like Ms. Wallace. Will the GOP ever come back to the point where they might again offer their loyalty, or have too many bridges been burnt? I suspect it will be the latter, but only time will tell.

(12,424 posts)They are choosing to be under the loser's thumb. And it did seem kind of opaque when he was occupying White House -- we wondered "what he had on them" -- but now it's clear that they are choosing to be his followers, probably because they have lost the ability to create winning policies themselves, and the press should cover what they are voluntarily buying into.

Interesting how those who hate government seek to run it & continue feeding at the rich federal trough!

(205,344 posts)And I heard a discussion on one of the news shows last night on how, now that it's started, whether it can ever be turned around.

We know this will never happen because our society just does not punish old white males.

(3,392 posts)cheaters, nothing has changed. In the age of Theodore Roosevelt he had to fight with republican corruption, and he was a republican.
The republican party has always been a party of grifters, racists, nothing has changed inside their culture, I believe their bad ideals are passed through generations and the offspring seldom deviate from them.
And although I like Nicole very much, I think she is terrific and very intelligent, she cannot defend republicans in the era of Bush or anyone else, unless she wants to go all the way back to Roosevelt who was honest, progressive, intelligent (no other republican in power has matched his academics or his intelligence), courageous, and was a real man of the people.
Lets stop thinking that the republican party needs to go back to its root, or even less what it was before trump, the only thing that has changed is that now they don't care about showing their racism, their corruption, their hypocrisy, etc. for everyone to see, when in the past they kept it in the closet. In other words, they have come out of the closet showing all their bad character attributes, their despicable behaviour.
I find myself using "etc." every time I start listing republicans evil character attributes, there are so many.

Thank you.
