2. He was the first to name a woman as a running mate,

at least on a major party ticket. He and Geraldine Ferraro made history, even though they were defeated by Reagan.

I believe the reasons they lost had nothing to do with Mondale, and everything to do with the double-digit inflation (highest ever) and the Iran hostage crisis that had gone on for weeks under Jimmy Carter. People saw Carter as weak on handling those matters.

How different and better our nation would have been if Mondale had won. Reagan was the beginning of the decline under GOP leadership that we've seen ever since then.
