Thier songs sound like an alien ship hovering.
And each cicada has its own voice.
Some sing lower others higher. It's really cool.
My ex and I caught 5 cicadas and recorded thier calls for a sound file. And another cool thing,they have different styles of call.
There are two kinds of calls they all use punctuate thier songs with.

About 10 years ago another big brood of these came out and with all the trees near me it was deafening. Walk outside in the sun middle of the day sounded like a 130 decibel machine shop...
