it was the insurance companies that notified the owners of trillions of dollars of Manhattan real estate, that if they didn't respond, collectively they would no longer renew their insurance coverage. They built a massive seawall.

Got out soon as I could, tried RI, they are even crazier there, then moved to CA and lived there for 19 years. Moved back here when mom and dad were starting to have health issues and raised our children here where they would have family. FL has changed a lot since Bush/Scott/Death Sentence stole power, the state became a lot more RW and got better at stopping votes down south where there's mostly Democrats.

We live in NE FL which has only been hit one time in recorded history by a hurricane, so much safer than most of the state, especially along the coast. Our area actually votes Democratic, but that's largely AA and a few of us crazy liberals. A lot of the older whites here are conservative right wingers and we don't go anywhere near their hangouts. There's no gang activity here in NE FL. Housing is so much more affordable here than many places. WE live in an old growth oak forest and flowers & veggies grow abundantly until late in July.

But along with the natural beauty, there are the right wing asses. If both of our kids didn't live here, we wouldn't still be living here after mom and dad passed. If drumpf had won, I was resigned to moving somewhere else, NZ being first on the list to completely escape and CA 2nd. Both of those places because we have really good friends there we could stay with while getting our own place. Thankfully, TFG didn't win, so can stay here with our lovely (to us) house and yard and weekly visits with the kids & partners. Who knows, my daughter might finally decide to have a family and I would need to be near - for sure.

So, its a mixed bag for us but I sure would not move here if I didn't have family here. I think a big part of life is making the best of what you have, so that's what we are doing for now.
