1. So how did these Canadian institutions get corrupted so badly?

No oversight on the religious institutions tasked with the social upbringing of the children? I honestly don't know.

I do know the weirdness directly, though. In 1987, my wife and I finally married in the Catholic Church. Mainly, for my Mother and Aunt....God Bless 'em. We had 2 kids already, but we needed the Parrish Priest to counsel us for the Sacrament. He was awfully interested in our sex life. 5 years later, he was arrested and sent back to Canada to stand trial for child molestation....his own siblings. Yeah, it felt pretty fucking gross when we found out.

2. WTF is wrong with these people???? I see its not just the USA that is whitewashing history

Maybe its me. These same folks dont want to be called racists. Refuse to acknowledge atrocities. To me, it would be so much easier to say, it was wrong. Lets all work together to heal the wounds of the past that still affect people today. To me, its so much easier to say it, and work towards it. Instead of gaslighting, whitewashing history and trying to pretend a thing is not a thing and to acknowledge that thing makes white folks hurt.
